Default Not to start a fight...

But what do you think about Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, living wise? Is it a nice spot to live? Are there many people? How is the fishing?

Pee Yess -- I will explain all this later...

lived in all but arkansas my friend. growing up my father went where the money tree was, lol. but for me bama is the best. not meaning to take anything away from the other states, it is where i grew up mostly. the bass fishing is the best here at guntersville lake. to me anyway. people? many? depends on where you are in bama, like anywhere else it depends on if you're gonna live in a big city... like say birmingham, there are lots of people. but here in section... nahhh. scottsboro is right next door, lol. and they're a 6a school, if that helps. and it is on the tenn river too. guntersville area. not alot of money to be made here though, for that you have to go to a big city. but b'ham, montgomery, mobile, huntsville you can make good money. and a college education helps soooo much.

I'm sure there is a wide variety of living styles in Texas, it is a pretty big state.

Mississippi is pretty rural. Thats about all I feel I can say. Arkansas is too in places.

Of course I also live in Alabama, both north alabama (huntsville) and west central (tuscaloosa). Huntsville is probably one of the best places to live in the country in that it is clean, has low crime and high per capita incomes with lots of job creation, it is also located close to the tennessee river and you can go west from trophy smallmouth or east for trophy largemouth. Tuscaloosa is more like the average Alabama city (Huntsville is an odd duck in state), lots of people work at Nucor steel, Mercedes Benz (which are coveted jobs), BF Goodrich or The University of Alabama, which has a dominant presence over the city.

Montgomery is a ****hole of a city, so is Birmingham with the exception of some nicer suburbs and Mobile can be hot and cold too, depending on the area.

Here is a really interesting thing I found while rearching Texas. It really shows how big and spread out Texas can be.

http://www.texaslegacy.org/bb/curric...population.png

Here is also a little bit of mathematical nonsense I was doing on my day off. It shows an average "people per square mile" comparison of Texas and Michigan, (where I live), in the year of 2004.

Texas Population, 2004:

21,800,000 -- Divided By -- 261,915 sq. miles = 83 people/sq. mile...

Michigan Population, 2004:

10,000,000 -- Divided By -- 57,000 sq. miles = 175.5 people/sq. mile...

Which in turn goes to show there are overall more people per sqaure mile in Michigan than in Texas. As Zooker stated, West Texas would be a nice place to live, just consult my chart....

I like Mississippi, but then again, I've never lived anywhere else. If you like hunting or fishing, I believe you're always within 500 yards of either a good fishin' hole or a productive deer stand.
Jackson (which I live just north of) is the biggest city, with about 176,000 people. There's several good public universities here: Mississippi State University (Go dawgs!!!), Southern Miss, Ole Miss (ok, so that's not really a good college...personal opinion on that one). Several private colleges: Mississippi College, Belhaven, Millsaps.
Jackson has THE WORST ROADS EVER, though. Potholes, backed-up storm drains, etc, etc. Madison, just north of me, was ranked in the Top 10 best cities to live in the US a couple months ago.
Mississipi has 60.09 people per square mile, according to my calculations. Even lower than Texas.

Hey MississippiBoy, why are the roads in Jackson so bad? I can remember even 10 15 years ago they were the worst, you would think they would have repaved....

PS, Montgomery interstate is a close 2nd. I curse the DOT every time I trailer a boat through that corrupt ****hole.

WTL, they do repave...one pothole at a time. You'll see a dumptruck with a load of asphalt, and 2 guys with shovels behond it. They just take a couple shovelfuls and throw it in the hole, smack it twice with the flat of the shovel, and go on to the next. So first you get tar all over your car, then later, since the new asphalt isn't bonded at all to the old, they'll separate, and you're back to where you started.
I work at a Mercedes/Porsche dealership here, and I swear there's 3-4 times a month we'll sell new wheels to somebody who ruined a rim or two. I just sold one Porsche wheel yesterday to a guy...$934. That hurts a little...

You know they have been expandin US 82 from here to starkville for 20 years. You know that somebody has to be profitting for them to be so bad at redoing the roads. Give me 20 years by myself and I could have got more work done. $$$

The problem with west Texas is that there is no place to fish! Now if you come to south Texas we have Choke Canyon, Amistad, and Falcon. Choke is just over an hour from San Antonio, Amistad less than three, and Falcon about 4.

North Texas has Fork, Cedar Creek, Richland Chambers, and a whole bunch of others.

East Texas (pine trees) has Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend, along with a bunch of lesser known, but very good, bass lakes.

Of the choices given, I would take Texas. Of course I am heavily biased having lived here all of my life. Depending on the climate you want (except for bitter cold) you can pretty much find it here.

I would perfer living in Branson. I think the ozarks have the finest fishing in the US. I also think it would be a good stagging area to fish other lakes further down south.

WOW! Thanks for all this information Guys!

Cranebird - That's really interesting. My town is about 1 miles x 2 miles, and has about 3,250 people. Not sure about people per square mile, but it's a pretty nice town.

Nitro911 - Thanks for all that information! I would really like to fish Fork, Choke Canyon, and Falcon someday. These lakes all give me the feeling of a true, big bass lake. I always want to fling a 3/4 oz. Trap bait over a BIG patch of hydrilla and nail that 10 pounder on my brand new Trap Rod!

To add on....

What about roads down yonder? I absolutely hate the roads up here in Michigan! Pot holes, salt, and dirt tear the cars up. How's it down there?

Lunk I am not good at math but I would say 1x2 =2 square miles so you have 1625 people per square mile ? Does that sound right ? C-Bird Figure

Lunk,

I went to Detroit last week on business and have to admit... the roads out there are HORRIBLE! I need to open a shop for front end alignment and sell tires out there! I'd make a fortune.

Well, I looked up the demographics of Hudson... 2.16 sq. miles with 2,499 people. About 1,157
people/sq. mile. Damn!

LL I feel you pain about the roads. Everyone down here in ohio complains about all the construction, but IMO, it's better than having the road like you guys have.

Ohio is 10x better than Michigan roads. When I cross the border of MI/OH, I can tell the difference between Michigan and Ohio roads the minute I cross the border.
