A bunch of FIRSTS for me in 2004
Well, first off I must give credit to all of the GREAT fishing minds here, who have helped me progress to the next level of my fishing. I couldn't have done it without the knowledge you have been gracious enough to share with me
Well here is a short list of the Firsts for me in 2004 1. Most quantity of fish in 1 day 2. Lots of fish on crankbaits 3. Baitcaster use(still working on it) 4. Fished in a Power lake that stays warm year round(thanks IL) 5. Became confident with pretty much most any kind of baits, since I caught fish on just about all of them. 6. Became a believer in the PNJ, and caught a lot of fish on them 6. Feel very comfortable fishing with anyone, even though they may KNOW more, I'm not embarrased by my ability and I'm always learning. 7. Caught my first bass in 30 feet of water(never had caught one in deeper than 15 feet before) 8. Bought so much gear, with more on the way, you could do some serious injury to yourself trying to carry it all at one time ;D There are more, but lets just say it's been a fabulous year for me fishing. And needless to say I caught more Bass this year than I ever have in one year 8) So anyone else have a few firsts. Lizards |

Re: A bunch of FIRSTS for me in 2004
Sure I'll bite:
1. Caught my biggest bass on a topwater bait 2. Became confident in fishing propbaits and other topwaters. 3. Baitcaster use (like Lizard, still improving) 4. Attended Bassmaster University (awesome) 5. Improved bank fishing with use of carolina rig (still need to practice with different baits) Thats my short list, I can't wait till 2005 so I can add to my list of new things I have learned. Lizards, Great post, good to see new topics ;D Kybasser |

Thanks Kybasser,
but I forgot 1 of the most important in my book, and that's that I didn't get skunked once this year, close, but always caught at least 1 bass. That above everything else probably has given me more confidence than all the others combined ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Lizards |

Re: A bunch of FIRSTS for me in 2004
I had a lot of firsts in 2004, in about this order
1. caught my first largemouth, tourneyfisher was there 2. Learned how to use topwater 3. Became confident in soft plastics, caught fish on almost all of them, not a grub yet 4. Fished almost every day for at least an hour or more through the end of the school year and all summer until I got a lot of stuff down pretty good 5. First baitcaster use (still improving) 6. Spent almost all my money on fishing gear, and still am 7. Fished my first tournamen, first time in a bass boat 8. Caught my limit in my 2nd tournament, just gotta learn how to keep them in the boat 9. Learned how to use cranks thanks to zooks improved shad rap This is only my first year of bass fishing and actually knowing what I'm doing and catching fish, best year I've had, easy. |

Here goes:
1. Bought my first bassboat. 2. Bought my first brand new truck in 12 years 3. Joined this site- knowledge obtained is untouchable 4. Caught fish on PNJ 5. Learned that fishing with my kids is priceless 6. Learned that fishing without my kids is less stressful 7. That other people are interested in my small amount Â* of knowledge when it comes to fishin. 8. That I can still catch fish w/o live shiners, and when I dont still be happy that at least I tried. 9. Fishing is still fun- doing it and talking about it. 10. That I finally have proof to show my wife that Im not the only one in the world that has to buy fishin stuff everytime I go into wally world or BPS. 11. Fished my first official tournament and didnt finish last. |

Re: A bunch of FIRSTS for me in 2004
Ok Folks I'll share my first here too.
1. Poured my first plastics ever at the start of 04. 2. Got lots of praise from the guys on the tackle makin boards on how good my baits looked. 3. In March I got my first Bass on a lure I had poured myself and I had forgot my camera at home! GRRRRR 4. Went into lure business. 5. Designed and built my first website. 6. Sold my first lures. 7. Got my First pictures back from a customer with a 11.6 pound hog he had caught on my bait. 8. Caught more big fish then I have ever before with over 125 bass near or over 5 lb. in one year. 9. Registured my own domain name and website. 10. got my wife hooked on bass fish and she caught her first 6lb bass on a Sink-N-Fool. Now I can't go fishing without her. Oh for the days she hated to go fishing. lol 11. Took my neighbor bass fishing for the first time in his life and he got a 12" bass on his first cast on one of my baits and a 5.5 lb. bass on his second fish of the day. He's also hooked on bass fishing All in all it was my best year ever. |

Re: A bunch of FIRSTS for me in 2004
I caught my first citation (Virginia Awards Program) Pickerel this year. Â*(Can I mention a Pickerel without starting a big fight?) Â*Saw my wife catch her first citation anything this year. Â*A 25" Pickerel. (opps there I go again)
When you get to be a real old coot like me, there ain't a lot of "first's". However in contrast to some of the others, I find myself carrying less and less "junk" with me all the time. |

Re: A bunch of FIRSTS for me in 2004
Not too many firsts for me, then again I always liked seconds...
First Shoal Bass.... First year that my average catch has been over 10 bass a day. First year that I took my (or my Old Man's) boat out by myself several times in one year (including trailering to and fro locations). First Flounder. First and only bass caught in brackish water. First fish caught while fishing from a kayak (not a bad means of getting around small areas) First year I relied heavily on jerkbaits (AC Shiner) and Jigs. |

Re: A bunch of FIRSTS for me in 2004
Congratulations to all of you who enjoyed some firsts. I'm like Cajun, too old to get many firsts. But we did find a new pond (new to us) that seems to have potential and we're looking forward to exploring it further in 2005.
