Got out with a couple of buddies on Kent Lake in Oakland County on Sunday. It was raining slightly when we started at about 8:30 A.M. and we pulled up to a good hump in the old river channel. Nothing there so after about 30 minutes we went on to some stumps in about 10'. We fished there with jigs and drop shots and picked up a decent fish, but they were not jumping on our hooks. After a couple of hours pounding this spot we were about ready to leave and go to another lake when I suggested we go try "the humps" where there have been fish all year. We pulled up and started catching fish right away, after a few hours here we had probably caught 10-15 bass, with the largest going a little over 4. Finally the sun came out and the bite shut down so we moved around for several more hours picking up a few fish here and there, but nothing spectacular. Overall it was a good day, but when the weather changed it sure affected the fishing.
Here is one, not the biggest but a decent fish: ![]() I know exactly where we will all be running when our league fishing on Tuesday evening starts though since all three of us will be fishing against each other. ![]() |

Sounds like a great day Bender! Looks like things may have turned around on Kent.

It looks like you need a nice rod holder for you boat. I counted 9 rod just lying in a pile behind you.
BTW, nice catch. It sounds like you found a good spot. Last edited by Fishnngolfn; 07-21-08 at 01:48 PM. |

LOL, that was the first thing I noticed too... but I'm the last one to talk, I usually have 5 rods on the bottom of the canoe!

Those were the other guys' rods, most of mine were on the front deck, they sure do clutter things up since I bet in total there were 15+ rods sitting out at the end of the day and I only used about 4 or 5 (maybe 6). It did take them 10 minutes to untangle the big mess they had beside the seat there.
One of the other guys had never been on the lake before so I think he brought about everything he had. ![]() |

I like to take 3 rods with me (2 spinners and 1 baitcaster). That way I do not overwhelm myself. I also do not mind tying on new lures if I decide to go change out spinners or crank baits but that is rare. Most of my changing of lures involves just putting a different worm, fluke, or lizard on. I will change the size of the hook every now and then but 3/0 seems to work well on 1/2 pounders and up.

We did fish for over 10 hours, so there was a lot of opportunity to try different things.
