Default Four Days at the Pointe

Arrived alive and well in Dutton VA at Starrett Pointe late Thursday night. No wheels fell of the trailer and forecast for Friday was rain.. I was jazzed to have such ideal conditions. Early morning run up the Dragon and the second cast was a brute.

Then a couple of shorts and a long dry spell till a four spot red drum came to the boat. That weekend the spots counted for bragging rights.
Next fish fights like a tank and turns out to be a turtle.

Then another long dry spell and I began to sing to brighten the spirits of my boat mates. Then the tide starts out and the fish move closer to reachable areas of the swamp.
This next shot is to protect you the viewer and not the fish holder. Talk about a royal ugly dude (RUD).

I see a commotion and flip Mr Ziggy into it and bam fish on.

Next day one my boat mates and I fish the lower Bay with live lines and chunk bait. We did well on 4 lb blues and I got a 30lb cow nose ray. But my boat mate got the real fight with a 60lb est. Southern Ray. It dogged him hard and he was shaking from a 38 minute battle just to keep line on the reel.

We caught on Saturday 8 different kinds of fish and two rays. Had a nice cooler of fish for the table as well. Lots of sea mullet..
Saturday night from the dock we got a dozen big croaker, six red drum and a few catfish. Sunday night will be beer battered croaker, blues, sea mullet and a couple of drum for 12....yummy
Next day Sunday we headed back up the Dragon for a morning only trip..
The ride in looks like this.

Jim from our group caught this LGMouth on the same spot I got mine on Friday.

The spot results for our tourny where 8 spots took the pride (Jim) and we had 5 people with 6 spots for second. 5 people with 4 spots for third place.
I was tied for last with ZERO spots.
We had a great time and I even sat out a trip or two to relax and drink beer.

Looks like you had a great time capt And that is a big turtle I took my brother out a few nights back and while fishing some pads from the bank he feels a small tap and sets the hook turned out to be a frog that hit his senko .

12 fisherman showed up and we had only one crisis. My daughters 6 month old beagle got a hook in its lip. I tried three times to push it thru. It hurt me as much as it hurt the little puppy. After three attempts I sent her and the the dog to the 24 hr vet to get it removed. It cost 300 bucks and from my stressssssed out point of view worth every dollar. (We used to say every penny (inflation) )
10 red drum where caught
49 LGMouth
18 croaker 12 over 16 inches
8 blues over 3 lbs too many small ones to list
20 sea mullet
two tog
one oyster toad
one cownose
one southern ray
2 catfish
18 big spot
6 slab bluegill
And a pigfish was caught too
No pickeral.. really odd.

Oh I forgot the beagle..

At least the puppy was ok , It seems like the last couple times I've been out up here the pickerel have been more active than the bass we've gone from 10 to 15 bass a trip at our lake to 2 or 3 with 10 pickerel it prob has something to do with the temps going down but at least they put up a hell of a fight .

Here a couple fish pics from the weekend at Capt's place. Wish I could have found some bigger trout but I enjoyed getting this one. The bass and redfish came off the same point on the same crankbait. Pretty cool.

Pics of my trailer mishap have gone to the great vaccuum in cyberspace. Had a trailer tire that was in pretty bad shape so I swapped it with the brand new spare before heading home from Mike's. I was cruising along getting close to home (45 miles or so) and the trailer started shaking. I pulled over and found the bearing buddy exploded, one bolt and lug nut missing, and the holes in the rim of the remaining bolts about twice their normal size. I tried putting the old rim back on and see if I could limp home. Nope! The threads got ripped up and the nuts didn't tighten down. Called the insurance company and got the tow truck. I found that the guy had very little experience with towing boats. Got the boat home but a 2.5hr trip turned into a 6-7 hour experience.

I figured thats how it happened.. I did that once too.

Since my last mishap I now carry lug nuts/studs/grease gun/ X-Bar/ floor jack and a fresh spare.

If a single axle with no brakes get one of those spare hubs to mount your spare on..

That is why I asked if you needed any help...

I fix things alot and can some times I even McGuyver it..

Used to be called something else before McGuyver..

Anybody got a good memory?

Spool of good line for the answer.......

We've coined the term afro engineering , for all fixes that just shouldn't work .
