I gassed up tuesday expecting this. I expect, should the damage be minimal to the oil infrastructure, that prices will go back down in a week.

It jumped $0.45 from this morning. It was at $3.54 this morning when I left for work and now the same station is at $3.99. This gas speculation crap has got to stop.

I heard that the price for a wholesale gallon of gas this morning was $5.

Think about that - if its true, it means the gas stations are selling at a net loss. You see, not everything is this grand conspiracy to "gouge" people. Sometimes the prices really do fluctuate.

There are several refineries in the path of that hurricane. If they flood and are shut down for several months - and thats a fair "if" - it doesnt matter how low the price of a barrel of oil is, you gotta turn that to gasoline.

My point is the American consumers are whining just to make themselves feel better, but they have consented to this arrangement where we drive 40 miles to work, drive big trucks and SUVs, allow their politicians to block new refineries, drilling, and anything that will help make our energy/transportation system a little less inelastic.

I recently purchased a honda 250 rebel off of one of the hells angels. 240 miles or 2 months on a tank of gas at 7.50 a tank.
Beleive me I get the last laugh, especally after gas goes to $5 a gallon. It literally pays for itself, and keeps me in boat gas money.

My friends father owns a gas station , and in all truth he told me that they could have been selling gas at 2.50 a gallon through the hole summer and still turned a profit . He also said that their normal profit on a gallon of gas is somewhere around 25 cents a gallon and with the prices raising the way they have it's the first time in a while that they have made solid money over the price of gas somewhere in the 1.50 to 2.00 a gallon range .

It makes you wonder. When ever you here hurrican or some disaster you here gas hike somtimes even before it gets there. The government owns oil wells and they hike it up.when ever we started to drive less because high gas prices. The government said every ones driving less so lets put a 50% taxes on gas instead of helping.I think america people need to band together like they did way back then.Instead of complaining actualy fight back.It seems every ones gotten lazy now and nothing getting done and government is running all over us.

The other major problem with oil/gas prices is the demand for oil in countries like Japan and China is going through the roof because of manufacturing growing rapidly over there . They are paying the higher prices as well and truth be told gas is normally 6.00 to 7.00 dollars a gallon in europe and from the oil companies view why should they lose money selling it to us cheaper ? It does suck for us but I don't think we will ever see gas under three dollars a gallon again .
