Default Guns vs Doctors

Doctors
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is
700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services.

Now think about this:
Guns
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.
(Yes, that's 80 million)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188.
Statistics courtesy of FBI
So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT
ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat.
We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!
Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on lawyersfor fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!

I have seen that comic response to the crazy notion of banning guns using the accidental death argument.

I wonder if the deaths per gun owner would still be less than the physician number even if you added in the "non-accidental" deaths caused by guns.

Just made me think of something to ask everyone

It seems we preach to the choir. That is to say, this board more than any other seems to really almost be in agreement.

Is there a liberal on this board? I mean they don't have to take part in the discussion, we dont need to start a fight, I'm just curious.

I think it will be difficult to have someone label themselves as a liberal. I am sure that there are some feelings on all of the political topics that will have people labeled. I think that it is pretty much the same as the pro-life/pro choice labels. Marketing told them that being pro abortion would not sell and being anti abortion would make them sound too close minded.

I am sure that being the only known Californian on here, mine may be the most liberal of mindsets. Hell, Proposition 8 is the hot topic for the ballets in November.

I believe that gun control does not have to mean banning guns. But I do believe that we need to limit what guns are openly purchased. While this initial thread has some interesting facts listed, the concern with guns is not the accidental deaths.

As always I welcome any different opinions on this topic.

I agree that the word liberal is a label, and I like to stay away from them myself.

I guess I am just marveling at how bass fishermen on this forum appear to all have similar leanings. Not that we are 100% lock step, but as if there is something about throwing a crankbait that makes one think a certain way.

I think that the logic is a little backwards. I think that the similar thinking is what leads us to the love of fishing. Let's face it, if we were all tree-huggers, then we would probably feel that we are hurting the sould of the fish and as well as that of any bait we chose to use.
This is not to say that we do not care about the environment, but the life of a tullie is not quite as important as getting a cast into the junk where the bass are.
