Default New Rubik's Cube

I am going to show what a geek I am but here goes.

I know how to solve all of the Rubik's Cube puzzles. 2x2x2, 3x3x3, 4x4x4, and 5x5x5. Who else here can solve them? I also just got the new V-cube puzzle in today. This is a 7x7x7 cube. The wife said a package was delivered today and I can't wait to mess with it when I get home. I know I am a geek for being excited but it is an early Christmas present.

Here is a picture of the 7x7x7:

I can solve the 3x3 and 4x4. Never saw a 5x5 and certainly not the 7x7 monster you pictured.

For some reason last year, I decided I wanted to learn the Rubik's cube. I bought one and went online to learn. I found out that there are many different ways to solve the Rubik's Cube. The one that I found the easiest to learn was from an guy on youtube named Dan (pogobat). His way uses about 10 different series of moves (ranging from 4 to 12 steps each). After learning the 3x3x3, I wanted to learn the 4x4x4 and the 5x5x5 which seem to impress people more than just the standard 3x3x3. They involved very similar moves with a few added. The problem was that there were some final moves (6 different setups) on the 4x4x4 that required the memorization of moves that had about 15 to 20 steps for each of the 6 different setups. I was unwilling to learn that. So I figured out on my own (it took about 20 hours of fiddling with it), a series of steps that I call a modified Cage Method.

Modified Cage:
1. Solve the eight corners. (common sense and memorized step 1 and 2)
2. Solve the top and bottom edge pieces. (common sense)
3. Solve the side edge pieces (common sense and memorized steps 3, 4, and 5)
4. Solve the centers (center swap) - this takes the longest the bigger a cube gets. But this one is all common sense.

This method uses mostly common sense combined with only 5 memorized series of steps. One involves 4 moves, two involves 7 moves, the third involves 9 moves, the fourth involves 10 moves, and the fifth is the same as the fourth set of moves with 1 move added to the front and 4 moves added at the end. Knowing these moves allows someone to be able to solve a cube of any size. Granted this is not at all the fastest way to solve a cube, but it is certainly the easiest and most consistent between the cubes.

I am in the process of trying to record a video of it. Once I do that I will post it on youtube and share the link with you guys.

It's the craze at the school. Never had the patience to try making all 6 sides of a cube match. But hat's off to you, man, that's just crazy

I always peeled the stickers and put them back in place , it was more amusing and less frustrating that way .

My "son" (exchange student last year) could do the 3x3 in 40 seconds or so, but I never tried. I forget his times on the 4x4 and 5x5. He also got some cubes with smaller pieces that moved easier from another company. I bet he has the 7x7, I wonder if he has figured it out yet.

If he can do a 4x4 and a 5x5, then he can do a 6x6, 7x7, etc. After learning the 4x4 and 5x5, the larger cubes are basically the same but just take longer. No new moves once you get past the 5x5.

Wow, let us know when you get it done. I'm impressed. Heck, I couldn't solve it if it was a 1x1.

I have solved it 3 times already. I think takes me about 30 to 45 minutes. Every time I was solving it, the wife made me stop for a bit and do some chores around the house.
