Default Snow in Mississippi

Yep, you read that right. About one day every 4-5 years, the Magnolia State sees some of the white stuff.

Today is that day.

Some weather reports say we may have 3-6 inches by the time it's all over with, but the ground is still too warm for it to stick. Ah well, at least everything looks a little better with a white blanket over it.

Congrats!!! I was in Northern MI the past couple of days, 8" in the morning with another 6" falling the rest of the day. Roads were pretty bad but could still get about 55 mph and feel safe.

I was up in Big Rapids, MI on Tuesday and like Andy said it was snowing pretty good:

I was still able to go 70 on the interstate, but pretty much everybody else was going a little slower.

Ok, just talked to my wife. She's a nurse at a hospital here. They're telling her that they may not let her go home tonight at the end of her shift. They've had 4 other nurses call in for tonight, saying they can't make it, plus the roads may be icy or whatever. So, my wife may have to work from 7 a.m. this morning till who knows, maybe 7 a.m. tomorrow, or later. Sure, it's good overtime, but that's a long day. Or two days, depending how you look at it.

I'm glad to hear that your taking it pretty well MB. To bad it wont stick around very long for ya though. Take plenty of pictures.
I kinda like having the snow, up until Christmas, but after that it can go away and then come on spring time!

I heard an interesting fact the other day, about the homes up there in Michigan, that most of them don't have gutters, due to the fact that they would just break off because of all the snow that they get. This just gives us an idea of how much snow they get.

Indianapolis would just shut down if we had that much snow. Well as a matter of fact Indy did shut down back in the Blizzard of 77. I think I was in the 3rd grade back then, but anyways thats another story.

I never liked it when doctors and nurses worked such long hours. I sure would not want surgery to be performed on me by a doctor who was at the end of a 18 hour shift. Mistakes get made by the best of people when they are tired.

Not that I want this but I can see the government stepping in and regulating the hours worked by doctors. They already do this with truck drivers.

We used to shovel our roof off at our old cabin. It was actually pretty fun, ladder for the way up and then just jump off when we were finished... Here is how we spent a day last winter.

I thought I was the only one that shoveled snow off the roof...we have a small electric snow blower just for the big 40 ft long porch roof...if we get a storm from the NE than it drifts off the top roof onto the porch, drifts about 6 feet high..the blower throws it onto the street and lots of ppl will freak out LOL

Tell me about it - just got back. I got stuck in a blizzard in Baton Rouge. Woke up this morning at a hotel and there was 4 inches on the ground. I will post pictures. They closed bridges and were talking about the interstate. Ate a little lunch in the French Quarter on the way back and even they had gotten snow.

That tomato soup does sound pretty good.

I'm now looking forward to getting our floatable Ski Bob out and hitting down the hills with the kids!

We are supposed to get snow tonight. We have had lots of rain the past 2 days and there is the fear of ice now. Schools are not opening until 9:30 am tomorrow. People in the south freak out when snow and ice hits.

I am sure for down south that its a total freak out to see snow stick and that
amount, up here we call that a dusting..
think bout this wtl, 3 years ago in january we got 28 inches of snow in 2 days!
After they plow the narrow back roads the walls of snow are often 7-10 tall where the snow plows push it over to the sides.

I'm from Huntsville, and one year we had about 8 inches....but the cajuns were freaking out. you could see how nervous people were driving when the snow started to stick in the roads. I had always heard yankees say driving in the snow was easy and I gotta agree with them now, its not so bad if you dont drive like an idiot.
