Its Only Been 14 Years
......since I broke down and bout a new rod and reel from bass pro shops. After spending the last couple years getting most of my fish on crankbaits, I took some vacation money I cashed in at work from last year and got the David Fritz crankin reel 4:7:1 and matched it up with a 7 ft crankin rod ...
Did I do alright? I've never had a MH cranking rod that was seven foot, all mine are 6 ft six. Any one else own this reel and does it really cast farther than most ? I put it on a american rodsmith MH seven footer |

Nice setup for throwing big, deep diving cranks. Your wrist will thank you all season long.

JB, I just bought the same set up except with a medium action rod and a 5:2.1 reel. Hope we like it.

One thing that I did not like about the American Rodsmiths rod is that the glass rod has no hook keeper and the composite rod has the hook keeper on the trigger. They need to put a hook keeper on the rod.

I''ve always put the hook on the top of the baitcaster and then wrap the line couple of times around the rod...
over the years theres a few scratches on the rods thats for sure but I try to avoid having all those rods tangling up with each other. |

JB look on the trigger of the rod, the one I just bought has a hole there for a hook keeper.

ON the one's that don't have hook keepers, I have always used a strip of Velcro. They look like pieces of tape and can be removed easily while fishing. They can be found where the phone and data cable supplies are in any home depot or lowes.
I also use these to secure the couple of two piece poles I use for the lakes and ponds that require a long hike.

That reel looks like the Lews Speedster. I had heard that Browning made them too. I need to find out who really makes that reel.

A little research and it appears to be a Lews quality product..but I may be wrong. I wonder if the reel is made in USA..

I have been looking at buying a new crankbait set-up too and after reading all of the positive reviews and seeing that BPS has the reels marked down in price, I went ahead and placed an order for the same set, 4.7:1R and 7ft. MH. I've decided to use 12lb Trilene 100% Floro, it will mainly be used with the deep divers.

JB,
Let me know what you think of that reel after you've put it to use!
