Freaking Pond Scum!!!!
The pond that i bass fish out of is a over all good pond but you cant do any bank fishing, because of all the dang undergrowth. Does any one else have this problem in there honeyhole? And if you know something that i can put in the water or anything to get some off the under growth out i would really like to know, so i can try. Because i have a john boat but some times i dont want to get in the boat to do my fishing.
So any tips on how i can get some of this damn scum out will be mush abliged Thx, Mr.Rapala |

Re: Freaking Pond Scum!!!!
your thinkin of that greenish snot grass? that is under the water? not hydrilla or anything like that? if its that greenish snot gross then pretty much your gunna have to work with it.....fish t-rigged soft plastics.......remember, bass will ambush in there.....so even tho it might get on your lure, you might still get some bass outta it......if its hydrilla.....that grows to the top...i would use a topwater frog. or get a jig or heavily weighted plastic and throw it in there.......yes pics would be helpful 8)

Re: Freaking Pond Scum!!!!
yes, but they are notorious for bad hook ups........wait about 2-3 seconds before even thinking of setting the hook.......wait till you can feel the fish 8)

Re: Freaking Pond Scum!!!!
I've never actually set the hook with those scum frogs. I've had penlty of solid strikes, the fish just don't seem to hold on long enough. I could just be impatient and expect it to work like a Zara Spook.
I'm having a similar problem at my lake. My Spook is my go to topwater bait, but the hooks get gunked up with slime or hooked on lillipads if I don't cast just right. What's the forums feelings on replacing the treble hooks with single weedguarded hooks? |

ineccess, what do you mean weedless treble hooks...i have never heard of a weedless treble hook??? just about the only thing i know of to make it alittle less weedless is to take the front treble off 8) and ummmm, how would you go about putting weedless singe hooks on a spook? or any bait that uses trebles? im just trying to understand here :-/

Re: Freaking Pond Scum!!!!
Kermit5 is the answer mt friend!!!!!! ;D you dont know
the kinda fun you will have that frog has caught me alot of bass this yr. Just cast it out on to the scum and kinda hopp it twice and pause hopp it and pause when they blow up on it dont set the hook just yet give the bass a 1 to 2 second to get the frog in his mouth they set the hook sraight up in the air and dont lower that rod tip. good luck Denny |

Re: Freaking Pond Scum!!!!
The scum frog collapse's easier than the tournament frog, for better hooksets,
the lighter weight tho makes it a tad harder to throw as far, but it does do the job...I'd give it maybe a second before I hook em...just feel for the weight of the fish.. the skirt usually goes up the scum frogs rear hole on a good un' lmfao : :P |

Re: Freaking Pond Scum!!!!
JB makes a good point, the scum frog is definitely softer and easier to get a hookset on.
Just nailed a 5 lber at the local pond last week on one from the shore, I LOVE pond scum! ;D |

Re: Freaking Pond Scum!!!!
New to the board, I can defenitly relate to the pond scum thing. I'm from IL and I have fished many ponds like the one your talking about. A solution to your problem is to take a couple hay bails, let them sit out in the rain and sun for about 2 weeks until they start to rot and decay them throw them in the pond where the scum is the worst. The bacteria that has been eating the hay will start eating the scum and moss in the water. I have done this myself and I know it works. Hope this helps.
