Default freaking spring cold fronts

this weekend i am fishing a big tournament, first place is a new triton bass boat, second place is $10,000 and so on. my partner and i were on a really good pattern catching fish on crankbaits. these fish were stacked up on points at the mouths of spawning coves waiting for the right water temp, moon phase, or something. anyways we were really confident that we could catch at least 20lbs which should put us up somewhere around the top. the other day my partner and a buddy of his had 22lbs with in the first 2 hours of the day and it has been like this for quite a while now. then yesterday morning we had a cold front blow in and the water temp dropped by 10 degrees and our fish were either gone or completley shut down. we managed 3 or 4 smaller keepers over the day on crankbaits. before we got on the water i was really expecting the crankbait bite to be non-existant and was expecting to have to slow down with a jig or shakey head. i had one knock the daylights out of a jig, but i missed it and nothing at all on the shakey head. all day it was like the fish were not eating the bait but just hitting it with their mouth closed. by the way the only thing i hate more than throwing a shakey head is throwing a shakey head and not catching fish lol i am just not a finesse guy at all. they are calling for another warm front to move in tonight and it is supposed to warm things up over the next few days. i really think that these fish are wanting to do their spring time romance and if we get this warm front like they say we will i really expect these fish to go crazy and probably the crankbait bite will return just as strong or maybe even stronger. or at least that is what i am hoping for because if not then we will be stuck making a lot of on the water adjustments which could mean disaster for us.

it is the same here kory, i hate cold fronts this time of year too. the trap was working great 2 days ago for me and lisa. might try a super fluke around docks and boat houses. i took gbassman last sunday evening, he caught a fw with the biggest going at 5# even. just flipped it and let it fall by the dock and boats. i tried it too, with no luck of course.

THats how its been here for the past 3 or so weeks...it willl be 60-80 for days and the fish would start nailing everything, but then it will turn to 30-45 for a few days and not a bite...I am stilll trying to adjust!!!!

Pulled back, suspended, or just got a case of lockjaw. Hate it when that happens.

Good luck C-Rig. You know they are there though or the general location. You know they haven't moved that far away. Just like the classic though, the fish were light on the first 2 days, and then bam. The fish had to eat one day.

I would have to agree with JB and 3D about the 'where-abouts' of the Cold Front Fish. My thoughts are that the fish are relating to certain pieces of cover that are nearby the main lake points that have been mentioned.

The big question is how long will they stick to that cover before they make their move; this all depends on how quickly things warms up this weekend for the nations midsection.

Bama, It sounds to me like its gonna be a great weekend to be out there on the lake fishin your favorite spots and finding some new ones.

I would spend my time back in the coves looking for pre-spawn and possibly spawning bass.

Here's to ya stick'n a big 'ol hawg!

when we could find baitfish you could graph some fish suspended around them. but i think the majority of the fish are moving up and down with the weather changes. problem is when they are moving down they just don't wanna play. in warmer water i would burn a spinnerbait or crankbait and try to get a reaction strike but when the water goes from 60 degrees down to 49 degrees overnight i don't think burning baits is the answer. it is still looking like a warm front will be pushing through and that really should change it for the better. in fact the warm front has arrived today and brought some warm showers with it. i really think some warm rain with a warm front is gonna help position these fish back to where they were or atleast make them easier to get on a form a pattern on the water.

fingers crossed
