I am looking at getting a 7' mh compre for basically fishing jigs. i never really fish any heavy cover but it may happen once in a while.. My question to you guys is would you get the 7' mh with a fast tip or xfast tip? thanks

i am looking for a rod/reel set up for jig fishing too...i think the 7"6 is a tad too long to stick in the old Pontiac..
did you read any reviews or check out these Powell rods? they have some flipping sticks..i was also looking at some of these All Star rods.. i am also curious for advice on the fast vs extra fast and heavy vs medium heavy...preferences etc.. |

I hear you with that i drive a lexus and a 7ft rod is about the longest i can go.. i dont ever really flip so i figure a 7' would be plenty long for me.. i have heard alot of good reviews on the compre and it has an lifetime over the counter warrenty so i guess you cant go wrong.. im a diehard st croix guy, i really would like to get another avid but i have no desire to drop another 180 bucks on a rod

I would go with the fast tip. A fast tip is a little softer so you can detect a sluggesh light bite. A fast tip will load up a smaller jig or tube better and give you a longer cast/pitch with a little lighter bait.
But if you think you going to fish heavy cover mostly with this rod, I would go witht the x-fast tip. This will be a little stiffer so you can pull fish away or out of heavy cover. PS. If you think the compre is good, pick up a crucial! Good fishin |

Same here. I have a 6'6 Daiwa one piece that I don't want. My boat's small and my car trunks smaller! Bought the combo for the reel and they had nothing but one piece rods

i would have gone with a heavy power but i really dont need it at all with where i fish.. i think that the mh has plenty of backbone for the type of fishing i do.. it was so hard to stray from my st croix but i was holding the avid and the crucial and they honestly felt about exactly the same and the avid would have been over 30 bucks more
I have heard nothing bad about the crucials so hopefully it doesnt let me down and wish that i baught the avid instead.. lol

Falcon rod's flipping sticks have a telescoping rod in a 7'6" model that reduces down to, oh, I don't know, 7ft or maybe 6'6" that I've been using for 15 years or so. I have 3 of them, 2 Original series and 1 Cara. Heavy action. Great for pitching and flipping jigs. Sometimes during an 8 hour tournament that's all I'll use.
