Default Blue Ridge Brawl

Well i went to my first bass elite tournament this past weekend at Smith Mountain Lake. Had a good time but couldn't understand why there were no fishing supplies vendors there. I talked to the Lowrance rep and he was a huge help. I just don't know why there were no fishing vendors. Is this pretty much the norm.

I've never seen any vendors at any tournaments I've been in, Lots of times the ramps are near hick towns that have nothing I need as far as tackle, your better off being prepared and carry five tons of tackle like the rest of us Rofl

Vendors on hand would still be cool though. Kinda like seein Kuryakn and JP Cycle at cycle events.

syd, I was up there on Thur. and Sat. I have been to 2 or 3 of them and there is never any vendors, but if you go to the Classic it's bait monkey heaven.

I've seen vendors at a couple events, Northern Open and Everstart/Stren. But mostly mobile stores that follow the tour events and park in the lot. Both had a pretty good selection and carried a lot of the new stuff that you don't see in the regular stores. Some small vendors selling new product will be at local money tournaments but not many.

there used to be some vendors at the Elite events but i guess they have droppen b/c of the economy.... the berkley tank would be there, Lowrance and Merc guys, and usually one huge trailer with stuff

yeah the classic expo is bait monkey heaven

I was there on Thursday and Sunday. It is just a shame to see all those fishermen gathered in one place and nothing to buy but barbecue, Bud Light and high dollar sunglasses. I will though one day go to a classic just for the experience. I understand it is like no other.
Plus Sportsman Warehouse is gone. That leaves Gander Mountain and Rays in Eden. Anything else is BPS or Cabelas on line.
Did read on the ESPN bassmasters site that KVD caught most of his fish on a Strike King 3x finesse worm in color dirty. I saw his rods when he came in and he had worms on a couple but he is notorious for setting out stuff and fishing with what he has tucked away in storage.

Syd,
There are two well equipped tackle shops down at SML. One on the north side and another on the south side of the bridge. Both carry a great selection of baits. Although the one on the south side was more receptive to people who represent custom guys.....

I have been to the one at Westlake across from Wendy's. I think it is Virginia Outdoors. But i don't know the other one you are referring to.

aint that the trueth, when we went to the classic this year there was more fishing stuff for sale than bass pro has in stock. they had a few trailers at the weigh-in's when they came to grand a few years back, i remember berkley, hart, and i think strike king was there too.

The other is a relatively new store at the end of a small strip mall north of the bridge. I don't remember the intersection or the name but I was there last August. Some good stuff but prices are a little high.

Anyone watch the Elite series this weekend. I was absolutely shocked ( not really) that they found bass up tight to the rip rap chasing shad early in the morning. They even had a little topwater action . Sweeeet!

KVD did with a mix of smallies and largemouth. He used a pattern I've been using for years (and he probably stole from me ). He was making long casts to the rip rap early and busting large bass that were chasing bait. Later he went to bed fishing which I've done a little on the lake but not much. We fish the lake in the fall most of the time.

I missed it too due to grass cutting duties..

I did see them snatching bucks off the beds but had to return to honey-do's

I've got it on DVR if you both want to stop in and watch it!

Capt - You got any thoughts on how you'd catch a few kickers on the river this weekend with all the rain? You think the river has cleared up yet with all the grass that's up?

Sorry Bama - KVD had 61lbs or so.
