The SX has a magnetic brake and I believe the drag rating is higher with the SX. The SX is the better choice for sure....the choice of championsLOL

I think the SX has two more ball bearings.

The drag rating is the same on all of the Revos.
There are two more bearings and the magnetic brakes rather than the centrifical. The SX does offer a 7:1 gear ratio that the S does not. The S is 8.6 and the SX is 8.7-8.8 depending on model.

I have both models and like them both. They both perform very well. If your thinking about buying one and money isn't an issue, get the SX. If your watching your budget, and who isn't these days, you'd be very happy with the S version.

I'd go with the SX purely because I prefer magnetic to centrifugal brakes.

Just bought my first SX a couple weeks ago and have been very impressed. To answer the question...I believe the magnetic braking system and the drag are the main differences.

I've got 3 of the S series and 2 SXs. They cast the same and the drag seems the same. I use very little brake on my reels with the exception of throwing wind resistent cranks or topwaters into the wind which isn't often so, to me, the S is good enough. They're both good, smooth reels and I'm slowly switching over to them on all my rods.

Disclaimer: I've only had Revos about a year so I can't speak for their longevity.

centrifugal brakes slow the spool more at high speeds and magnetic brakes slow them better at low speeds. With a centrifugal brake you rarely get those huge birds nests that happen if you cast too hard into the wind or something, while with a magnetic brake you may not make as long of casts, but the brake stays fairly consistent throughout the cast.

Default I have s, sx, and stx

revos - I also have 2 new curado e's and I would go with an e....

I love the Curados and the e series is $179 only a little more than an sx revo!!!
