Cleaning the 'ol boat

For some reason, everytime I try to wash my boat, the "water spots" do not go away. I try to wash my boat after every use, but NONE of the spots come off..

Has anyone else had this problem? How Can I solve this dilema?

I wipe down my boat every time I load it . No problem with spots. You might need to buff the gelcoat and give it a nice coat of wax . See if that will help .

I found some shine finish products i used years ago at the car dealer and it cleaned the gunk un the mid and made my motor look new.Its a mopar finish enhancer.I hear Nufinish wax is good too.

For the real hard water spots like I get on my motor cowl the only thing I found that works is MEGUIARS Hard Water Spot Remover. And it takes several applications of that!
I wipe mine down when it comes out of the water but the boat gets wet running and then water bakes on when sitting in the sun all day while fishing. Nothing else I tried (vinegar, BassBoat Saver, etc.) has been able to get those spots off. After you get them off wax it and they do come off easier in the future.

I've had good luck with Meguiers Cleaner Wax. It has some micro abrasives and with a little elbow grease seems to take most stuff off gelcoat and engine cowlings. Would probably work good with a buffer.

hey guys Im pretty new to the forums. Don't think it will work for the water spots but, just a little f.y.i. you can use Pledge furniture polish on your gelcoat for a quick wax job. I use it regularly on mine. It gives it a very nice shine and also makes the gel-coat slick.

A mix of 1/3 vinegar and the other 2/3 water is what I use and it takes em right off.

Another tid bit of information - I use Coppertone Dark tanning lotion on the wood in my boat. Glove compartment cover, wood strips around the storage compartment. Makes the wood look like new again and also protects it from the sun.
