"I want me some Horny Toad!!!!!" Yep, that's what I heard when the bass jumped up through the grass mat to grab the toad today at 1:30 PM announcing that topwater is officially on here in VA.

![]() Took a mental health sick day and got out for a mid-week gathering on the river. Started the day with a 3lb bass on the 5th cast on the RC. Caught a 3.5 a little later on the same drop off on the Kaotic Potomac Punisher w/ Knucklehead Shad skirt. Headed into a creek and found one humpy back keeper on a laydown on the chatterbait. Made a run to the back of the same creek and lost a keeper at the boat when my landing and netting combo skills failed to work together . I was fishing alone and had no netman . Once again on the chatterbait. Picked up the fourth keeper on a Paca Craw in a small pad field. Fished a lot of different cover today and found fish almost everywhere but I was in need of a 15" fish. Ran to small feeder creek and hit my best fish of the day, 4.5 lbs, on the same Paca in some more pads. Fished the creek and came back to the same section of pads and culled 1/4" and released my smallest. Finished the day with 14.3lbs enough to pull 2nd place out of 28 guys (Damn...don't people work anymore??? ).Enjoy the pics!! |

Great pics man! B'lieve it or not, I've never used a horny toad! I've always used ribbits! Do they kick up much more than a ribbit?

Bboss - Don't know. The tails are very quick and sputter/gurgle. Different design but I don't know if one works better than the other.

JB - I've got 4 PP's with a different skirt on each. This one was the Knucklehead Shad which is white/chrome with 5 black/chrome strands. I believe you have one or two of them now . Don't go losing them or give all of them away. I haven't used the Blueback or Summer White Perch yet.Bama - Just wait until June 16th when my summer break starts for 6 or 7 weeks....... ![]()

Nice catch 3D. BB I go to the Toad when they spook on the ribbit. The action is tighter and it has a little less profile. The toad has outperformed everytime for me, but it might just be a cofidence thing. I am not downing the Ribbit & everything has its place and time.

For those interested in a better look at the skirt here's a picture. The top one is the Knucklehead Clear Shad and the bottom is the Knucklehead Shad.

15.9, 14.3, 14.2 were the top three weights. Got lucky cuz a couple guys only had 4 bass and weighed 13+ lbs. Last edited by 3dkicker; 05-21-09 at 04:39 PM. |

![]() JB - You get to play with those 1/2 oz grass jigs yet? I caught a chunk of a 12" bass out of some pads the other day on one. Fish weighed well over 1.5lbs. Last edited by 3dkicker; 05-22-09 at 04:54 PM. |

Both keepers came out of a small section of the pads. The first point facing the incoming tide. Sweet little spot that hopefully holds some more keepers next weekend.
