I’m going to get a new camera. Not a $1000. one, thinking about $150 bucks. They say the new ones have video for around 5 minuets, with sound, and are my page ready. Any suggestions? nothing fancy, just a nice camera that's easy to use. I know almost nothing about cameras.

Sony Cyber-Shot! It's what I got... I love it! It has 7.2 MP and video with sound, it can have a 1 hour 2 min long video! It also comes in an 8.2 MP model for 150 (I think that's how much)! It has a huge LCD screen. 10 pic modes (snow, bright, high sensitivity, landscape ect.) I think it has a 3x zoom too!
Check it out! ![]()

Personally, I'd never buy a Sony, Kodak, etc camera. I'd suggest a Canon. Look into a Canon Powershot A1000 IS. I believe it's around 150 bucks.
It's got 10 megapixels, 4x optical zoom, a 2.5" LCD screen, and uses an SD or SDHC (hc = high capacity). I shoot with a a canon powershot, but a more expensive model, and I use a 4GB SDHC card. The only problem with an HC card is if you have a built in card reader on your computer, most won't read HC cards, so you have to use the USB cord to upload pic. If you don't have card reader, don't worry about it cause you'd have to use the USB cord anyways. BB

Oh and the length of the video all depends on the memory card you use. I forgot how long my 4GB HC card can film since I don't shoot a lot of video, but if you will, I'd look into a 4 or 8GB high capacity card.

Well, I'm a big Nikon guy, but I do have to admit our office has two Canon Powershots....and they are really great for quick, convenient, high-quality photos. Consumer-level quality, obviously, but well worth the money.

My wife won a camera at her company chrismas party this year, and we've been super impressed with it......its a Fujifilm finepix A805....its a 8.3mp camera with video and sound.....I keep a 2gig memory card in it and can take more pics and video without filling the card then you'd imagine....we've been very happy with it....and I think it sells for around $150.

I'm thinking about the samsung L200 on amazon. It has good reviews, has rechargeable battery, 10.2 mp, 3X zoom, 1 hour video, and small. It's not water proof, but if I drop it in the water, it's gone anyway! $134., free shipping, and no tax!

One more thing, they say you can stop the video that you taking, and take the picture from that stopped frame. That would work good for me, I fish alone most of the time.

I've had a Sony DSC-W30 for 3 years, and I lost it about a month ago. It takes great pictures, is small, quick, and easy to use. I looked on ebay for a DSC-W50 (one model up) and found a used one for $54 with a minor scratch. I also bought a battery, charger, usb, and a 2gb memory card. Total of $80. (retails for $250.)
Most people are afraid of eBay, but if you check the seller rating, you'll be good. AND I RECOMMEND YOU DON'T BUY FROM HONG KONG OR CHINA! |

Ebay has saved me a ton of money. Paying with PayPal will protect you from non received items too. A great thing to look at on Ebay is their recent feedback, especially if you can find feedback on an identical item to what you're wanting to buy. Oftentimes, the seller will be selling several of the same item. If 2 have already been sold and the buyers left good feedback, grab one

I have a nice Kodak but want a little skinny one to jam in a tackle box pocket. Won't need an impressive optical zoom or many features.

Nikon Coolpix as WTL suggested. I run the higher up Nikons but only because I was amazed at the amount of abuse the coolpix was able to withstand, including accidently dropping it off the gunwale of the boat onto the pavement (8ft.).
Also, don't get sucked into the megapixel scheme that everyone is mentioning on here. |

Yeah...frankly, high megapixel counts on most cameras only record the distortion of the lenses accurately. I know, because while my Nikkor 18-200VR is a really cool lens for my 12.3 MP D300, it can't hold a candle to a Nikkor 70-200 for image quality. Of course, it costs about a thousand less, so it's still worth it. Moral of the story? Get a good 7 MP camera, and you'll be fine.

^5 to all the Nikon guys, lol. I love my Nikons!!! ok, My wife has an Olympus and it takes great shots. I'm not going to try to convince you on any particular brand or model. Nofear makes a valid point about buying a 7 MP camera. Unless your planning to blowup your shots into near poster size, more MP's than 7 are not going to do you any favors. You can take wonderful photos with a 3-4 MP camera. I'd like to give you a few things to think about though. Most cameras come with a small memory card, if they come with one at all. Most do not. I would recommend buying the largest memory card you can afford. I can't tell you the number of times I've seen people bring a camera to an event and after taking two photos they cry out," OH NO..I'm out of card space"! It will cost you more, but you will have peace of mind knowing you have plenty of space left on your card. My wife has both a 256MB AND a 512MB card and they are both full! You'll be suprised at how fast you can fill a card! "I took that many photos???" A 2GB card will do you well. With a 6MP camera sensor you should be able to store approx 650 shots. Also, be sure to buy a second battery with your camera so you can have one fully charge and ready to go at all times. Thats another thing you see folks cry in their beer over, having a dead batttery in there camera when they REALLY wanted to take a few more shots of something. Also, some brands tend to be proven winners. Check out consumer guides for ratings of various brands and models. There are a lot of good cameras out there. BE SURE to find one that feels good in your hands. I HATE small thin bodied cameras. It's so easy to loose your grip and drop the camera, get a finger in front of the lens when taking a picture or have it slip out of your pocket unnoticed. Many models incorperate a larger handgrip where the batteries are stored in the camera. This definately helps in holding the camera steady. Having a vibration reduction system in your camera is good for shakey hands and low light situations without a flash. And lastly, here is something many don't realize when they make their purchase. Many people find it much more convienient and easier to use a compact digital camera that has an mode dial on the top of the camera. Many compact cameras access the various shooting modes through a push button system. You have to watch the screen while you continue pressing the buttons untill you find what you want. If you have larger fingers this can be a bit clumsy and time consumming. I recommend a camera with the top mounted turn dial for the various mode selections. It's faster and easier to use. Good luck.

My personal camera is a HP 5MP camera that takes ok pics, and has been through a beating... for the past 3 years, but is still going strong. Now my profesional camera is a Canon Rebel XSI, which I use for HS sports pictures... that one never goes with me fishing, just the HP. Also like keith said get a big memory card... i shoot a Toshiba 16 GB SDHC High Speed Card in my 12.1 MP Canon Rebel XSI, and I can take 3371 pics with an ISO 200, and let me tell you, more than half of those 3000 pics get used up while shooting a sporting event. If you need a good place to get memory cards, try Sams Club, i got my 16 GB SDHC card for $29.

rrw' right about the memory card. I use Toshiba 4GB SDHC like I said before. Also got mine at Sam's Club. I'd someday like to get a really good camera. I use a Canon Powershot A630. It's got 8 mega pixels and takes great pictures. I used it in my Digital Photography class and the pictures were great when blown up to 8x10".

I decided, 10MP DIGITAL CAMERA CAMCORDER w/ PANASONIC CCD+ISO 1600.
Is not Panasonic, but SVP. The ALL-NEW SVP XThinn-8363 "TOP OF THE LINE" 10.0 Mega Pixels Max. High Resolution Digital Camera/Camcorder with built-in most Advanced Face Detection Technology system; Smile Shutter Mode for more true-to-life people shot and Image Stabilization Technology for superior image quality. It has a Huge 3.0 inches FULL-COLOR LCD TFT Screen, and a 12X Combined Optical Zoom Lens. The SVP XThinn-8363 also featured with a with a Intelligent ISO Control up to 1600 helps prevent Motion Blur, Exposure Modes and 21 Scene Modes that fit a Range of Situations. I read the bad reports on them, but also read the good. Out of 8520, only 4 said it was bad. For $15. Bucks, I get a 2 year guarantee, anything goes wrong, they fix it! Won’t get it till about Friday, I’m waiting! I like taking the long shot’s, I think I made the right decision.
