Default Opinions needed

Few years ago I used some braid on one of my reels, I loved it, but it gave me more problems than mono ever has. I think i had a terrible time with the braid in the wind more than anything. Is there a reason not to use braid in wind, or maybe the baits were to light in weight. I want to try some braid again, specifically for dock and structure fishing. Also, this will go on a spinning reel.

What is the best braid for a light weight rod/reel combo.

Thanks, ken

Hey ken, how's life in Grand Blanc? Love that town! I used braid for the first time last year, and it was on a spinning reel. Sufix Performance braid. Used it for froggin and never had a single problem with it. Other than the abraided index finger that is.
My setup was more of a medium rated combo

I stay away from braid, but if that's what you're goin with, then I would recommend suffix for what you're lookin for.
Hope this helps.

One drawback of braided line (and one of the only ones IMO) is that it is susceptible to wind knots. I've found this is more common with lighter braided lines, and have maybe had one on my 30lb braid.

I'd give it a try again, and Sufix braid would be my recommendation.

On a spinning outfit power pro is hard to beat, back the reel spool first with a small amount of mono prevents slippage on a hook set.

Before I started using baitcasters I used braid on a spinning setup. It worked fine for me. I used powerpro.

Perfectly said. If you are having issues with birdnests on a baitcaster, just loft the bait into the air. You cant like throw it as fast as it can, I'm not sure why, but braid will backlash real bad if you really throw somethin heavy parallel to the water as fast as you can.

Hey Ken
Braided line is not my preferred line around docks simply because I haven't found one that casts as well as mono... but you can't beat it when it comes to heavy structure.
I always keep one reel spooled with it.

Hey ken, I have personally used braid on spinning reels for years in my opinion its perfect for spinning gear works extremely well for me. But i prefer fluorocarbon for the obvious reason that its clear and braid isn't but braid handles extremely well on spinning gear.

Thanks everyone for your incite. Still not sure I want to get a braid but I did buy 2 new reels this year and both came with an extra spool. Maybe I will line one of those with some for the heck of it, in case i run into some serious stuff and worry that my big game might not hack it. It wont be on the same rod/reel I was asking for in this post, but why change what has been working.

Thanks again,
Ken
