when is an ideal time of day to use the jitterbug? after sunset?.ive had 1 forever never used it before until today, i was getting sick of everything else i was using today, so i was just tied that on to see what it was all about & play around w/ it,, kind of addicting..lol
i also found a new lake today, which is now going to be my new fishing hole. and thats where i used it. as soon as that thing hit the water i could see activity around the jitterbug ( didnt catch anything on it) but the water is super clear and everytime i got it close enough where i could see anything there was at least 3 to 4 blugills(wish they were bass > ![]() |

Try topwater anytime~
Although you'll probably hear early morning and dusk, but most of the old old timers I learned from used to brag about the jitterbug killin' em at night! Pitch dark black as coal out night.. Personally I have caught fish on the jitterbug , but prefer the Pop R alot more, the reason you ask? because the jitterbug to me is just a throw and retrieve bait, sure you can make it stop, but it doesnt have that dance ability I like to walk the dog so to speak..... |

when i fish topwater, i generally fish them bright and early in the morning or right around sunset, i have had some fish hit them during the heat of the day but it was rare. The areas your targeting are good areas to find fish also

I hear the bait monkey pulling on you ;D Isn't it great 8) Just watch it or you'll be looking for another job to support him ![]() Jitterbugs are my favorite topwater lure. You can also rip em across the top if you want, but it's at it best with a steady retrieve or a stop and go retrieve. Of course it's a good bait to just sit there also. I say the night is the best, but I have caught them all day long. It can work better than a buzzbait when they are short striking the buzzer. I will have one tied on this weekend I can assure you. I probaly throw a buzzbait more, but I still prefer the Jitterbug. Lizards |

bigjim, a Pop-R:
![]() The cupped face catches the water and makes it "pop", attracting fish. Â*This is just one brand of a class of topwaters most call poppers. Â*It sure catches fish, though. Dang, JB-are those muskie poppers ![]() |

here is what you want to do for BIG bass, buy the biggest jitterbug you can find(not jointed) and go out in the dead of night, then, find some wood structure and keep casting past it, and reel it in, then stop, reel in, stop, stop it right near the wood. let it sit, then if nothin happens keep that retrieve goin. get the jitterbug in solid black. you wont be dissappointed.

Yes, they carry them, bigjim. Â*Another one to take a look at is the Poppin' Image and Poppin' Image Jr. Â*They are similar to a Pop-R made by Excalibur. Â*I caught a 6 pounder on a Jr. last summer:

I've never had a lot of success w/ a j-bug,but I've never given it a fair chance. It seems like it would be an outstanding night bait.

I prefer the all black booyah buzzbait with additional clacker for my night bait. Skirt it down with some juice and use a nice fat slow retrieve. Bass gobble it down like I gobble mcdonalds cheeseburgers.
