Default Rod & Reel suggestions

well like i stated in my very first posting to this forum. i am just getting back into fishing and after digging out my tackel box and rod outta the shed today, i think i may me in the market for a new rod & reel...ive always used spinning reels.. is a baitcasting reel better for bass fishing or will my spinning reel work just fine? and what should i look for in a rod? do i want something somewhat sensitive, very sensitive, or more on the stiff side? i know theres all kinds of rods and reels both ranging in price from $35.00 to a few hundred, i dont wanna get crazy, but i dont mind spending $100/ 150 for a combo pkg

bigjim, I had a response typed and for some reason it didn't post :-/.

Baitcasters allow you to throw heavier baits, use heavier line, and fish heavier cover. Spinning gear is great-I use it for light baits, but for 95% of my fishing I use baitcasters.

If you stay in the $100 range for a rod and reel or a combo that is already matched you will have a quality setup that will last.

That's a good direction to go. If I had to pick just one rod to fish with I'd go with a 6-6 MH action. That's the best all-around length and action for general bass fishing as far as I'm concerned.

Some people prefer the spinning reel, and there's nothing wrong with that.I use both but prefer the baitcaster.I use an Ambassaduer 5500 w/ a Berkley Lightning Rod.It's moderately priced, but a very good combo .I've landed a lot of big fish on this set up,and it's given me no problems.

Rattlinrogue, good to see you here.you should try a round pflueger trion size 56 if you like those abu's.not that the abu isn't o.k. but the pflueger is sweet.it's close in price also and has a 1 piece aluminum frame.the 56 size holds about the same amount of line as a 5600 abu.
