How old and what type? There might be a real market for some of the older ones. I have my uncles 1950s Lionel set, but of course its a heirloom that we will never part with, but I'm sure there are collectors out there.

If you do not have one, I suggest that you set up a pay pal account. It will usually allow for an easier transfer of the money. Otherwise you run the risk of receiving bad checks/money orders as payment.

Old model trains are so cool. Maybe it's just the engineer nerd in me, but I think the old trains had a much better "gadgety" thing going for them. Rather than made for the mass market, they were made for true connoisseurs.

I think ebay is offering a special right now (June only?), as in reduced listing fees. If you're gonna sell them, now would be the time. Although, I would bet that right before the holiday season might be the peak time of year for getting maximum cash for that kind of item.

My tip would be to include the best pictures you can get of them. Enhance the colors a bit (not enough to be dishonest....but to bring them to attention). Don't be afraid to set a reserve price on particularly valuable ones.

Don't forget, you're supposed to be 18 to make an ebay account.

Also, with paypal, I think you need a credit card or checking/savings account.
