Default The Darkside of the Force Spey Casting.

After a few Crappy weeks things are getting better. Dad surprized me the other day with a trip to the fly shop. We both got Speycasting Rods. Dad settled for a 14ft 9wt Ross. I settled for a Orvis 15ft 10wt. We both got Lamson Konic 4.0's. I'm 38yrs old & my Daddy buy's me a Spey Rod. Maybe he feels sorry for me. I don't know. I tried to tell him that he didn't have to buy my pole. He said shut up & let me do this for you. So i did. Were going to do alittle father & son Steelheading in the near near future. Once it get's scheduled. Makes since we need to to get outfitted for such a trip. Why all this going on i plan using this Rod on the stripers once they move into the shallows.

That was definately a VERY nice gift. Looks like a steak dinner should be in store for your dad, lol. Where are you going fishing for steelhead?

Congrats! I've seen this style of fishing and it is one of the coolest things to watch.

Spey casting is an excellent way to throw long distances, heavy weight and this can be done with very little clearance of trees and shrubs behind you. It can be done with a decent regular fly rod as well. No my roll casts needed.

I just traded for a 10' switch a couple of weeks ago, I can't wait to try it out!

You'll like it allot. I'm getting sick crazy distances on my cast. 14ft leader, 40ft shooting heads & with 35ft of line out with one cast = 79ft cast. I've had as much as 100 ft out. Covering that much water sure does give you more oppertunities at catching fish.
