Default Michigan got something right!

I got my plate renewal forms in the mail last night and was shocked by what they've made available.
A lot of our parks and launches require a fee to use, like most states, I'm sure.
Can't remember our daily fee but the yearly, which I bought last year is $20.
Now you can add it right to your license plate tags and it's only 10 bucks a year!
I'm doin it for both vehicles. I was so excited, I called a buddy of mine who already heard about it and he'll be doing it too when the time comes.

Ehhh...can't complain too much really. Michigan does do a bang up job of taking care of the water, wildlife and whatnot.
Plus, 10 bucks is a small price to pay for maintained launches
Not all launches are fee based, but one I stumbled on last year (and is now one of my favs) is, as well as several others I frequent

Mallen, that fee is a great idea. Some of the launches in Michigan were run by the DNR amd others by the state. Each required a different sticker and then Metroparks around SE Michigan were another $50 for truck and trailer. Too many stickers! The Metroparks stickers aren't included in the new fee but it covers most places. I just wish they had better concrete ramps at more of the lakes and they repaired ramps that have been destroyed by people power loading.

In Mississippi it cost $100 for an annual pass to launch at state lakes, ~$25 for the Corps of Engineer lakes, and a per day fee (~$7) at other lakes. It adds up quickly. About the only thing that was cheaper in New York was the lack of ramp fees.

I really like Michigan's new plate thing but it does make a big hassle for me as a nonresident. I've only been to one lake where I needed it since the program started October 1st but I had to pay a special fee of about $8 to fish (no boat). They really are sticking it to nonresidents all around though. I'm on my way up there now and checked into a deer license since I might have time to hunt, $128 for firearm only and $260 something for a combo!

Mallen, is that for the state parks? I wonder if non-residents can get something similar. We pay $30 for the state parks tag.

BigB, you'll still have to pay for both. It makes it a lot nicer. I was paying $48 for the two, then another $50 for Lake Lansing. I had an expensive window! The other option for MI is if you don't pay the $10, you can still use all the parks. However I will donate my money.

Next time you're up this way, we'll haul your boat with my truck
