Default How to make a website ?

Doc in another thread made his club a website. i would like to do that for my bass club as well. Is there any place to create a free website ? Is there any software , or websites that can help one with no experience create a website ? The guys in my club are all older than me , but i think they would appreciate a website. I think that I would have the most computer experience though. I may try to build one without their knowledge first , just to see if I can do it , Lol. How do you go about making it noticable threw MSN , Google , or Yahoo ?

Yahoo will let you create a free website and it's extremely easy to do. There is a monthly fee to have it hosted, but I think it's only about $12/month. They have templates already made and you just follow the steps they provide. If you decide to try Yahoo's site builder, let me know if you have any questions and I'll see if I can help. Here's my site, it only took a few hours for the majority of what's on it:

godaddy.com has free templates that are easy to use. Did you buy the clubs website domain name from them? If so they have a 4 page web site that they host for free. Google and all the rest will find it but it takes a few weeks and months for it to run through the system. Unless someone looks for the exact name.

CMorg,

It has gotten alot easier than it used to be. Nowadays, you can use any word processor like microsoft word to make one. Additionally, if you are using an ISP like COX or TimeWarner, they often have a site builder on their main page

The question of how easy is it is all dependant on what you want to get out of the site. If you are looking for interactive content and want members to be able to post to it and upload photos, then it is a little more intensive than a couple of pages that simply show info.

A lot of folks use something like Adobe Dreamweaver which allows for a lot of interactive content as well as flash type items on the page.

Just remember that once you build the site, you need three other items to make it useable.

First, you need to buy the naming rights. There are several places to do this. One of the most popular is godaddy.com. Sometimes your internet provider will provide for this. Unless they determine that the site is for profit. Then they will require a business class service fee.

Second you need somewhere to house it. This hosting service is also often included in most internet packages you will have from home.

Lastly, you need something called Domain Naming Service (DNS). This is what allows users who type in www.sitename.com to point to your location.

Well, I will try to make this a little simpler... go to webs.com and sign up for a free account and they will host a free site for you... you can also use their site designer for free and it requires very little know how on your part. Everything is free of charge if you don't mind having a site like I built and maintain for our bass club.... for example our webiste is www.eriebaybassers.webs.com. Webs is about the best completely free site out there, that I have found.

I know BB also hosts his jig site through webs.com... I hope this helps.

I also use webs.com.....The free package is all I use right now....On the free accounts they'll have advertisements on there...You can pay a small yearly fee (like 16 bucks) and they'll take em down..... But its easy to manage and navigate I think.

I've had my airbrush site for 12yrs or so....Its hosted thru www.angelfire.lycos.com and hasn't cost me a dime, unless I wanted to pay to get rid of the pop up ads....That only cost $4.95mo if I remember correctly.....Check them out and see what ya think.

Well, I just checked out webs.com and am going to use it for club site as well. (That way, I am not th eonly person who can update it)
I have to admit, that it one of the easiest I have seen out there.
Being an IT guy, I usually make things more difficult than they normally are.
I am used to having to maintain the hosting sever and DNS myself, but for most users, I think webs.com might be great.

I'll check that webs out, it could be interesting. I'm too cheap to buy Dreamweaver so I do all my sites in a text editor and write them by hand. I've tried some of the free software like Amaya and it just wasn't very good for me. One tool that I think could be great is WordPress. I just started to play with it but haven't had time to figure it out yet.

For any HTML questions take a look here: www.w3schools.com . There is also some good free software out there for photo handling like Silverlight.
