It actually works-sometimes. If a fish rolls at a buzzbait and misses it sometimes throwing a soft jerkbait or lizard to the spot the fish rolled at it can trigger a strike.

I've always found the best "follow up" bait for a buzzbait was a Rapala slim minnow fished on the surface. Throw it to where the fish hit, let it set, then twitch it.

It does work. That's why the Pro's always keep a tube, lizard, or creature bait rigged up on a rod. Sometimes bass will just slap at a buzzbait out of aggravation and not really want to eat it. They just want to get it out of their area. That's when you want to throw some kind of soft plastic or maybe a jig right back into that same area. Many times that same bass will hit it.

Crank/spinner/buzzbaits are considered good search baits because you can cover a lot of water with them and bass will let you know where they are buy slapping at these baits. If your throwing one of these and just keep getting slapped at but not really hit that's when you need to switch to something different like a soft plastic and slow down your presentation.

i think the best lure to throw after missing a fish on a buzzbait would have to be a 5'' weightless cenko right where he blew up on it.
