I am looking for a new pair of hunting boots since the pair of Rocky's that I have had for years is giving up on me. I have a pair of knee high rubber boots that I wear bowhunting when the weather isn't too cold but I need a pair for when the weather is cold. I will be doing quite a bit of walking in these boots too while I am rabbit hunting and coyote hunting but also I will spend a lot of time wearing them in a tree stand as well. They need to be waterproof as much as they need to be warm. Currently I am looking at Danner's and Irish Setters but don't have any experience with either brand (I do know that Irish Setter is made by Redwing). Anyone have any suggestions?

A hunting buddy of mine has a pair of Irish Setters and he loves them, they didn't set him back too much either. He hunts in the mountains of East TN and does alot of walking so I guess he would be a pretty good judge.

I've a pair of Redhead Bone-dry with Gore-Tex that haven't let me down. A little heavy but warm. Never had any experience with Irish setters or Danners though.

Why not another pair of Rocky's? The pair I am wearing now have me convinced to never look anywhere else.

I agree, I've had 2 pair of Rocky's and they were both great. When I buy a new pair of hunting boots, they'll be Rocky's.

I haven't ruled out another pair of Rocky's. I was just curious about some of the other brands out there.

I have been looking in the BPS catalog too. I was looking at the Red Heads myself, but will take a closer look at the Rocky's you guys keep mentioning.
Sorry for the hijack, but what level of insulation is a good number? I am tired of cold feet. Good topic, good posts. |

They do make nice boots, I have a pair that I have had for probably 12 years and they still feel good on my feet. But I never really considered them as hunting boots. Maybe I need to reconsider, thanks for the idea.

Everyone should have a pair of Muck Boots. They are light as air, and honestly feel like a pair of tennis shoes. You can walk in them all day long and never get blisters, or feel like you've been lugging around bricks on your feet. The best part is that they keep feet warm.
I've had my pair of Woody Max's for 11 years. That's a long time for any boot, but a really long time for me to have a pair. |

While they are pricey, the only boots I use are Danner. They were my boot of choice while in the Corps and they are the ones I still use to this day.

Having owned Rocky Bear Claws for the last 6 years I cant bash Rocky at all, however I bought a pair of Danners for the 2010 hunting season and I gotta say they are the best fitting, most comfortable boot I have ever put on my feet. With the exception of Warringon Pro Boots. These by far beat the any other boot I have ever owned. I have never had the Irish Setters so I cant speak for them. Also Look at the Cabelas Outfitter Boots my Brother has a pair of them and loves them. They, like Danner offer lace-to-toe and that is were you get the great fit.
