I think both teams had a great game. What it came down to was that Auburn was able to run the ball and Oregon was not. I was actually pleasantly surprised that both teams defenses played as well as they did. This morning I was really expecting a shootout. Esp. after I heard what my brother got in his over/under 73 pts.

It was a good game with a lot more defense than I expected. The turnover on downs inside Auburns 5 yard line killed Oregon. If they would have even got 3 points out of that then the field goal at the end would have had a little more pressure to it, if they got a touchdown and Auburn was forced to go for a touchdown then things look even more different. It was a great game though and Auburns defense spent more time in Oregons backfield than the Oregon running backs.

Good thing Auburn won, or half the state of Alabama would have taken the the day off- and blamed the weather!

Yeah I say the Auburn Defense collectively should recieve the MVP. They played like you expect a national champion defense to play. Fairly is a freakin beast!

It was a heck of a game for sure. Oregons lack of a running game like TN mentioned was a real setback for the Ducks. And that last Auburn drive, I imagine the Ducks coach was yelling "YOU GOTTA MAKE SURE HE'S DOWN!!!!!!".

I guess these boys didn't learn rule number 1 in football. Play through the whistle. That was the first thing my minors coach said to me.

That is a tough situation to be in for a defensive player though. I agree that you have to play until you hear the whistle but in that situation if you jump on him and he was down then you are most likely going to get a flag for a late hit, even if the whistle hasn't blown. That play is a killer though. He is lucky that Auburns bench got his attention before he tossed the ball down though because that would have been a strange turnover lol.

I was thinking the same thing last nigth after seeing that. What if he had tossed the ball to the Ump for placement? How would that work?

And you know it's funny you mention them being neither part of the field or part of the play. But for some reason I remember a pass play of Oregons previous possession where the ref became part of the field as one of Auburns LB's had to run through him? Kind of a bump.

Im not 100% but isnt that a change they made this year(well last year now) that the Ump is right in the way? I've seen it in both college and NFL games where the ump is in the way of those quick middle of the field passes.

The new rule for the NFL says that the umpire no longer stands behind the linebackers, where he used to be. Now, he's behind the line of scrimmage, opposite the head referee...picture a triangle, with each ref and the center as the points. At 5 (or is it 2?) minutes till the end of the half or the game, he goes back to his original position behind the linebackers.
On the same note...check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msPd1il84NA Was THAT referee part of the field?

Wow. If I had to guess he had money riding on LSU. The triangle showin his field of vision is great.
Thanks for clearin up my confusion BTW. I wasn't positive. It just reminded me of a few things I noticed throughout last years season, and seemed to fit so I threw it out lol.

Seems like that SC guy got it bassakwards. It's kind of embarassing come to think of it. I know if that was me who got blindsided by the ref, I'd never hear the end of it in the lockerroom.
