How to tie the Fishgator Knot
I invented this knot last fall and have been testing it out ever since. I've caught a lot of nice-sized fish using it and it has yet to fail even under a lot of abuse. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY1ck...layer_embedded The Fishgator Fishing Knot is tied in a way that prevents the line from cutting across itself, making it a superb knot for use with light monofilament or fluorocarbon line. It is a very strong and compact knot that also is less likely to catch on vegetation because when tied properly, the tag end points towards the hook/lure/tackle eye.

Hey Blue, pretty cool knot. You'll have to send it to knot wars. Seems simple enough to tie. Will have to try it out on some old cranks.

I like that! I'll be sure to give it a try.
That little forward-facing tag end on most knots does seem to catch all of the junk in the water, doesn't it?

Great looking knot and it looks easy to tie. I think you showed how to tie it very well. I'm gonna try it out on my next trip.

Good looking knot Paul. Have you tried it as the main knot on a Dropshot? I'd think the downward facing tag would be good for bringing back through the eye of the hook when rigging the DS.

Interesting knot for sure! Definitely send it knot wars, I'd be interested to see how it compared to the other top contenders.

Thanks for the encouragement - I'm serious about wanting feedback on the Fishgator Knot. I've used it mostly for light line applications and have tried it for drop shot fishing once - did seem to work very well, with the hook standing out.
One other thing that I didn't mention, is that I've been snagged on the bottom on rocks and wood a few times and have purposefully tried to get the knot to fail, but it hasn't yet. That doesn't mean that there isn't a fault in it for some applications. I haven't used it with braid a whole lot yet. As far as submitting it to Kayak Wars, I'd be happy to when I can figure out how to do that. At the suggestion of a friend, I'm also going to be doing some tug-o-war trials between the Fishgator Knot and other popular knots.
