It started out very foggy today with temps in the 50's and no wind. I caught this one just 10 minutes into my day on one of the spinnerbaits I make. The spinnerbait ruled most of the morning, but caught a few on a jig. Lost one of my favorite jigs made by Anthony. Hated loosing that one!
Caught two on a lipless crank, a red Rattlin Vibe. About mid day the wind picked up and the sun came back out. My black/blue jig bite slowed down so I switched to a bluegill pattern jig and picked up a couple more off of that. Then everything got quiet so I switched to a Strike King series 4 crankbait in Tennessee shad and started probing deeper grass beds, Thats when I caught my last 5 for the day. Most of the fish were small, but enough decent ones to make it fun. Had one of those half hour moments when it seems EVERYTHING is going wrong and you start wondering if you should pack it in. But you have that from time to time. A comedy of errors if you will. Then the inner ring from one of my St Croix rod guides seperated and I decided I'd head for home. My wrist has been bothering me for a week now and it was getting to be very painfull to cast. Hard to even hold onto the rod, so that was all she wrote for today. Saw a HUGE snapping turtle rise up and out of the water. He came up so fast and high he looked like a sub rising to the surface. I was like, what the heck is that ? lol

Way to go Keith! That 30 minute comedy of errors thing seems to happen to me more often as I "mature". Thurs am I ease up to one of my old reliable spots (big brushpile out on end of sharp point) anchor bow and stern, toss out my favorite jig, get a gnarly lash on a rig that never backlashes, get the jig hung. Stay calm set the rod down rather than break off or pull anchors-go get and ruin my spot. Toss out a Gulp senko and line snaps on cast due to tip wrap. Stay calm-retie-recast-hook a fish, that immediatly wraps around a limb and my slack jig line? As I'm pulling on senko line I knock my jig rod in water. Stay calm-grab a spinning rod to work edges of pile with a cb before going in to straighten everything out. Hang the SR5 on a lone stump that I didn't even know was there. Decide to pull up anchors (with 3 rigs hung up-one of which is on the bottom), bow anchor line knot comes undone, anchor will remain on bottom until the end of time. Finally free up jig-handline the senko rod into the boat-as I poke the tip of the cranking rig into the water to free the cb I poke the insert out of the tip of my wifes expensive rod. Thank goodness I was alone. Made me hark back to my teenage years when it was unthinkable to go fishing without a fat hogleg in my pocket

I texted Keith I was heading to the lake and got a text back he was already on the water!
I took my father-in -law and oldest step son out and we had a blast. The kid(he's 23 ![]() ) gave it a good ride but came up empty. I got five including the first ever on a Jika rig and F-I-L got 7, all on a Flick Shake. I went "old school" just for giggles and got 2 on a Mister Twister Slimy Slug, which is the MT version of the old Sluggo. What was wild was this is a 6" bait and I was throwing a shad color similar to Zoom's Arkansas Shiner. Anyway, one broke the surface, I dropped the bait right next to the splash and it hit. When I got it boated it yakked up a shad that the Slimy Slug matched EXACTLY. I have never seen a bait match the forage color so exact before.A great all around day!

Awesome day on the water KD, even with the blurps on the screen. I guess you can move from handle restoration to guide installation now.
