Default Fishing Beaver Fart Lake by Kayak

Today marked my third fishing trip to the lake we've affectionately given the moniker Beaver Fart Lake, but it was my first trip by kayak. Our previous trips had both ended in several quality fish for us, and with the temps warming up a bit after a couple of weeks-worth of cold, we were hoping that the fishing would be on fire.

We were on the water by 10am and found the water temp was 54-55 degrees. The wind was blowing from the south at 5-7mph which allowed Yakviper and I to set up on a nice shoreline drift. We observed no beaver farts this time, which was foreboding sign that the fishing might be a bit tougher this time, and it was.

Yakviper hooked up with a 15" fish within the first half hour, and had racked up a few more of similar size during the first two hours to my big fat ZERO. I was getting frustrated until we paddled up into a small creek channel a ways that had some active fish and I managed to get the skunk off as a warm rain began. I caught a few more during the next couple of hours of rain back in the main lake and we headed home.

I tried T-rigged plastic crayfish, a spinnerbait, and jig n' pig, but the only productive method for the day was the jig. Most of the fish were in or very near woody cover. The dozen fish we caught were not as large as the ones we caught during previous two trips with a friend in his bass boat and we had to work harder for the ones we got, but we counted it as a successful trip.

Looks like it was a fun trip! I always love kayak fishing, it really allows you to get up in the nooks and crannies of the bank
