Default BPS.....Really???

So I get a card from BPS letting me know that I've got a week or so to use my reward points or they expire. So of course the monkey starts screaming at me!!!
I find that I can squeeze in a quick run, I mean quick, so I head down the road. I get there, make a quick pass down the center isle, and end up in the tube row. Nope! Not what I need so I turn and head to the crankbaits. I spy the RC's on sale...Bingo!! Do they have any Wakebaits left?? Please, please, please....and they have a couple 2.5's left in Citrus and a Pink Sexy shad so I grab one....I've heard pink works well around bridges. I do some quick math. With my points and the sale....RC's for $6.50 each..Sweet! And I'm heading to checkout. I hand over my card. Show the cashier the thing I got in the mail and she tells me.......I've got to have $10 in rewards in order to use them. I'm $1.16 short.
WTF???? Are you kidding me???
So I purchase the baits..I'm not passing up that deal. And I'm told to go see customer service about the reward points. Damned skippy I'm going to see them.
I head over. Give them the info and I'm told......."Oh. You're points are fine. They won't run out. Corporate does this all the time"
Really? Let me speak to the manager....I just busted my arse to drive down and I didn't need to???? Seriously?? What??? Time to speak to someone higher up the food chain.
Manager comes over. I explain situation and he nods his head in agreement. "Hang on I'll take care of this......" Gives me a $25 gift card, shakes my hand, and I'm on the road. Now I'm thinking I've got almost $10 in reward points, but still can't use them, and $25 to use.

Sometimes I really wonder how people work in the corporate world and keep their jobs????

You had me at the first sentence, as I thought those REWARD POINTS do not expire. I am happy to see, as you ended the story, that is true. I didn't know that a $10.00 minimum to redeem points applied, I've never had a problem but then again I aways had above that when I redeemed them. So I'm aware now of the minimum, thanks. At least ya got a gift card and once you redeem that - you'll have enough points to redeem them also. You one lucky dude, dude.

Promise to god you leave and that manager cusses about those "damn" corporate people. If there is a terrible idea at any chain store, it's the corporate people. My job at a restaurant is the same way, the big wigs just have all these ideas which lead to more unhappy customers or more unhappy workers. And I thought the same thing about the points during the first line.

Least you got $25 out of the deal.

I let the manager know that I wasn't happy with the fact that corporate lied to me which got me to make a 40 mile trip. Then I'm told they do it all the time. And then to find out I couldn't use the points.....

I think I'll be sending corporate a little email.....Anybody have a connection to Johnny himself????

Well don't mention you received a gift card from the manager of the store - they'll maybe send you another one. You could also twist the knife a little by telling them Cabella's has never lied to you regarding their points reward program.

Right John, go suck down some more (homemade) ice cream. You may never be forgiven.....................

BPS and Cabela's are only a mouse click away - and you can redeem points and gift cards on line.

Yeah! Go eat some ice cream...... : D

Manager and I discussed the online option but would have spent the reward on shipping so nothing gained there. Another option you have is to order online but have it shipped to the store and then pick it up. Didn't know about that one. Still would have had to make the drive.

I like the Cabela's comparison idea. I wonder if I'll get any response at all.

I'm not being argumentive I just look at things a bit differently when comparing expenses - especailly when discussing shipping. For me either BPS or Cabela's is an hour away (60+ miles) so when I figure gas and my TIME (even though I have considerable, being retired, it's still important how I spent my time). That's about 8 gallons of gas, and two hours of my time (just getting there and back, no store time - which is a higher value of time management than driving). Shipping, for me, is nothing to complain about (not that I consider that you're complaining) if you consider how much it costs to drive there. You're closer, so it's less of an expense than for me, but should still be a consideration.

The other issue, I've found, is there are a few items that are available via catalog or online that you can't find in the store. I was a bit ticked my last trip to Cabela's - yes I DROVE - as I went to get 3 batteries and the shipping on those is HIGH - I also needed two livewell pumps, and there was only one brand in the store available (4 brands on line) and it wasn't the one I wanted but it would work, as all brands are very similiar, so I bought them while I was there.

Regardless of expense a trip to BPS or Cabela's is a great way to spend a couple hours, if not a couple bucks. Oh, and if you are disappointed with the $25.00 give card they gave you - I'll give you $20.00 cash (delivered).

Believe me I thought about the distance and gas before I hit the road but I believe I mentioned the monkey.....and the monkey gets what the monkey wants!!!! Here's what the monkey wanted.

I really didn't want the card. It was more about the fact that they didn't let me know

1) I could have extended my points with a phone call.
2) I didn't have enough points to use them at the store.

And that it happens all the time and the points don't "expire". This is a repeated problem that continues to occur and no one at the corporate level has fixed it.

I figure I can give the gift card away as a prize in one of our Kid's Derbies or for one of the Junior Tournaments.

Last word - I really like those R/C L/C Wake baits (although I don't think they're called Rick Clunn's now) I bought a dozen of them last year when they discontinued and discounted them. The Snakeheads should LOVE them....................

These were what's left of the RC's (you can see Rick's mug on the right one). Looked for new ones with Tak's face on the package but they didn't have any. I wonder if they plan on making them or not???

Yes the snakeheads absolutely love them......

Got a response from BPS. They let me know it was all my fault for not spending my reward money within a year, not accumulating 500 points, and not reading the back of the card where it states somewhere that I could have called in and extended the points.

Strange there was no comment about Cabela's policies

They expect a lot, don't they. Copy the back of the card and see if anyone at BPS can read it................. without the magnifying glass.

Headed for the Potomac on Wednesday, we'll see if I can get a snakehead to eat a wakebait. Be there until Sunday, when we continue on to Dale Hollow.

Hope you get this before you get on the river.

#1 I haven't seen or heard of a snakehead being caught so far this year. You'd think by now someone in my club would have caught one. So good luck with that.

#2 Crankbait and traps haven't worked as well for bass as in previous years. You really got to slow down with them and almost twitch them to make them work.

#3 Craws (Baby Brush Hog) have been the #1 producer for most of the club members. Although the Potomac Punisher (customized by yours truly) won the last tournament with 15+ lbs.

#4 if you don't find them in the grass beds then go to pads.

Post pics......you should have plenty.

Snakeheads are being caught and a few big ones. This isn't me but it's from 4/25 and I'm hunting for a snakehead on Saturday. Bass for the first three, but I would like to hang a big Potomac Pike. Thanks for the tips!!

I had a talk with someone from BPS not too long ago about expiring rewards points... She told me they will never expire as long as you make a purchase at Bass Pro with your rewards card once every three months... Since I'm there at least once a week I think I can handle that.
