Went to Miami today with my friends Jon and Drew. We knocked them around all day, catching fish on poppers, frogs, jigs, swimbaits, squarebills, worms, shakeyheads, traps, spooks, chatterbaits, and senkos. I was hoping to make it to 1,000 by my birthday yesterday but fell 83 short. I made up for that today, catching exactly 83 bass to make it to the 1,000 mark before May. Only 2 over 18", one on a swimbait and one on a senko, the swimbait fish was probably around 4lbs and 19". Had one eat a crankbait as far as I've ever seen one.
![]() Number 1,000, last fish of the day on a crankbait from under the dock by the ramp. ![]() Here's the swimbait I caught a lot of them on today. ![]() Last edited by bluebasser86; 05-01-12 at 10:05 AM. |

I did get skunked once this winter when it was about 30 degrees out with strong winds and ice around the edges of the pond. I try to avoid lakes that have low populations of bass, not worth my fishing time if I don't have a very good chance to catch something.

As a question, this year is your sole intent to just catch numbers of fish? just wondering, you are way ahead of me. but i also dont have enough time to ever get on here, or sleep.

Gotcha. My freshmen year (3 years ago), I wish I had kept count. I fished almost everyday with a kid who used to be on here (swimbait kid). Who knows how many fish I caught.
But good job, and give you props for the swimbait. I have been throwing smaller ones for a year or two now and am gonna move up to bigger ones soon.

The Berkley Havoc Grass Pig has quickly became one of my favorite smaller swimbaits. They aren't expensive and they work great weightless, with a keel hook, or on a jighead. Buddy of mine even uses them for spinnerbait trailers. The 5" Decoy Hydratail I was fishing is by no means a big swimbait but it is way bigger than most guys are comfortable fishing.

One year I had a bass count on here of well over 10,000. Of course it was fake, but it was funny all the questions I started getting with people asking how I caught such huge numbers of bass. The answer:"I lie about it".
(edit; not saying a word about what you are doing bluebasser, I think you are legit, but since we are on the subject of bass counts...)

I actually am married but I don't have any kids. I work an evening shift schedule right now (1600-2400) so I'm only home with my wife Saturday morning, Sunday, and Monday night. So I usually have a couple hours before work 4 days a week that I can go if I want to and then again all day Monday until she gets off work.

ughh, my hands hurt just thinking about unhooking all those bluegills. That's insane to catch that many fish in that amount of time though.
