Prayers needed BADLY for one of our own
I just got a call from John, he's leaving work headed home. Lightening struck his shop and jumped to the house. His boat is parked close to the shop, and the strike set it on fire. Lisa and her parents exhausted 3 fire extinguishers on it, and it's still burning. Several pieces of equipment, like his welding machine and whatever else were fried, and some outlets in the house were blown out, so now he has to worry about all his appliances inside, washer, dryer, TV's, A/C unit, etc.
That's all I know for now, he's going to try to keep me updated. For now, he needs some MAJOR prayers from us....

We left B'ham a couple hours ago and it was getting rough. I will be saying a prayer for them.

I am glad to see this thread already up and asking for prayers, I was getting on here to start a thread just like this for them. Prayers sent for John and Lisa who are two of the best people I know.

Just talked to John, it's not as bad as they first thought. House, shop, and all electronics/appliances/power tools are ok. The boat is still in one piece, too. He'll be on in a little while to tell the whole story.

Holy Crap - that's terrible news. I hope nothing is lost that cannot be replaced. I also hope he has good homeowner's insurance. That no one was hurt is the one bright spot. Hope to hear from him soon, for the whole story.

Ok, turns out his phone line is down, so no internet. But basically, the stuff on the boat is the only worry at this point.....trolling motor, engine, fishfinders, and the wiring itself. There was smoke coming out from underneath the console, so it definitely got smoking hot....

That's good news as far as I'm concerned, fire is a scary thing. I'm glad it's only some boat damage and not home damage.

Best news you can get. Hopefully the boat is ok, it seemslike John has had some difficulties with it, time for a good luck stretch.
Come to think of it, maybe his boat will be infused with the same lightning power that got into Robert Redfords bat in the Natural.

Dang I just rolled in and read the OP, I should have skipped to the last few. I'm glad nobody was hurt and like boogie said I'm hoping John is in "Good Hands" Last year we got pummeled by a once in a hundred year hail storm. Beside getting the obvious stuff like a new roof, gutters, shutters etc we also had considerable collateral damage. New grill, a bunch of patio furniture, and as luck would have it, I had been respooling line on a half dozen of my better baitcasters on the back deck the evening before while watching the hummingbird show and left them stacked in the corner. Say what you want about Allstate, but they hooked me up! Maybe John can get his adjuster to replace all the goodies on his boat.
Maybe maybe even get a new computer and cable modem and start viewing-posting pics! Or is that not what we should wish for?

He just texted me again. His modem is fried, but the rest of the house and shop are ok. The boat is the only thing with any damage. The phone company came out and fixed his phone line already. No idea Howard the boat is. We'll have to wait and see.

I Love that I figured John to be the kinda guy to give his boat a cute name like that!

I'm also glad it didn't happen durring the night while everyone was asleep in bed. Who knows what would have happened then. John and Lisa have my prayers!

Talked to John again this morning. He says 2 of their phones and their computer modem were fried, but that looks to be all. Everything else is working fine.
It looks like the lightening hit a tree close to the shop, then ran through the wet ground up to the shop and house, blowing out a tire on the trailer on the way by. I'm going to try to attach a picture of the tree. Well, here it is.....sideways. I get on Photobucket at work, so I'm doing this from my phone, and can't rotate the pic on here.
