Default Just want a few of my detractors to know -

that today, with certainty I can honestly and truthfully say I AM NOT FULL OF SH!T. This morning I have to undergo a colonoscopy, been five years since the last one - seems like yesterday. I am totally cleansed, well physically at least.

Ok, I mention this so that all you guys over 55 talk to your doctor about being screened. As we get older, things can happen to us that we don't show symptoms for until it may be too late. If you have insurance, there really is no reason not to get checked as it is not a difficult or unpleasant procedure - although I can't say the same for the prep work. It's not as bad as it used to be, but it's a little nasty.

One word of advice when you do have it done, don't look at the Roto Rooter Snake that's hanging on the wall in the procedure room. Last time I did have a polypop removed - non-cancerous, thank God - but I made a mistake of asking the doctor where he found it. He actually grinned when he told me: "It was at the juncture of the small and large intestines, that's about SIX FEET UP". Yeah, I cringed.

Guys, in ALL seriousness if you are over 55 get those checkups, annual physical, blood work, ESPECIALLY if you have family history of medical issues. If not for yourself, then for your friends and family. It's all about detection, early detection then treatment. Some of you know what I went through last summer - early detection probalby saved my life. Granted, I was not in an immediate threat, but if I didn't get checked I might not be able to say that today. I will decend from my soap box, the games are about to begin. I hope you all have a great day!

LMBO!!! had mine on my 50th..which wasn't too long ago.back in jan i believe. and yeah, seeing all that CABLE coiled up on the table kinda skeered me. then the doc wanted to have a lil conversation with me before he put me under. i'm REALLY starting to wonder about him now. he enjoys his job a little too much i think, hahaha! inflicting pain, ok, no pain actually..but discomfort let's say. ain't my idea of a carreer. i told him after 5 mins of "chat", let's get on with this. and no sooner did i say that i was out. woke up to a nurse standing over me telling me she wanted me to pass gas in front of her. gee lady, did YOU pick a sorry job too. hahaha!! of course there is no smell cuz there ain't nothing in there to stink. but i sat up and then it ripped. bout blew me off the cot! felt like i was gonna go skyward several times. went straight to waffle house...ate like i hadn't had a piece of food in amonth.hahaha!

but in all seriousness guys. the process BEFORE the actual procedure is the only bad part of it. after oyu drink all the stuff and clean oyurself out...the rest is a piece of cake.

DO IT FELLAS!!! i too had a couple of spots. 1 hole in my hole, heheh. doc said it wasn't nothing. so i am good for 3-5 years.

this can and DOES save lives!! go and do it...please. and even if you aren't 50 and over, BUT have a family history of colon cancer....GO AND GET CHECKED NOW. like bruce said, EARLY DETECTION IS THE KEY.

now i too will get donw off the soap box.

Sound advise.
The bowel cleansing scrip "Go Lightly" has got to be the biggest misnomer in the world.

You think that's fun wait till they want to go in BOTH ends at the same time....thank God for anesthesia.
Actually they give you a drug that causes amnesia, you can't even drive for 24 hrs afterwards legally. You really remember nothing.

Now for you insured ask your Doc for the alternative prior cleansing fluids. They have a one time fluid instead of that 2 gallon jug of....KOOLAID.
Your insurance will fight for the cheaper 'koolaid' but have your Doc tell them your on a special diet.
And John the nurse and Doc both have sh**ty jobs!

Now for those of you who are convinced it can wait because it's not the most appealing procedure and you have no discomfort or symptoms, guess what, colon cancer surgery is ALOT more invasive and you WILL remember it!

"GET ER DONE" as the saying goes.

My "clean out" process was done with over-the-counter products that cost me about $15.00. Ducalax (4 tablets), Magnesium Citrate (11 oz bottle) and I didn't like the taste but it's a minor issue, and a bottle of Miralax powder mixed in a 64 oz jug of Gatorade. Drinking that much in a two hour period is NOT as easy as it sounds but not that bad.
Fasting all day is another issue though. Nothing after dinner two days prior and nothing but clear liquids the day before. Oh and like 'Bama said, immediately after the procedure I was having a BIG breakfast. Oh, the good news - all is clear, nothing found so I get a pass for the next TEN years.

My father died of colon cancer, prompting me to be checked. I've had a couple of colonoscopy's. On the first one I had, several polyps were removed - the doc said that one of them was of the size and type that almost always become cancerous.
Sometimes I think my father died so I wouldn't.
