Talking Ok couldn't resist

This is just flat out funny....to ME anyways.

So I've been fighting my friend (diabetes) for awhile now and lately HE'S been winning.
So they got me going everywhere trying to figure out the weight loss challenge.
Results, I need glasses, they want to replace a fake angle I got, (doesn't bother me so that ain't happening), I've had tubes shoved up my arse and down my throat with cameras. They want me to consider disability classification (that AINT EVER happening) and yet NO ONE can tell me WHY the weight loss. Remember now, I'm 5'5", was 135lbs. and take in 5000 calories a day min.
So they got me doing these activity level and food intake charts.
My doc was reading them and this was what he had to say. "Joe you can't keep getting up every morning, go fishing, come home and go work and then go fishing that evening." "That's not healthy even for a healthy person." "Keep it up and you'll probably see an early grave." (My doc doesn't mince words)
The BIGGEST SMILE I can remember came across my face. Running through my mind was my signature on the forum posts. . He says, "Joe whats so funny?"
My reply, "I'll consider working LESS."

On my way home I cross the river. I can't cross a body of water and not fish....so I stopped at the lagoon and fished for an hour. Had some business at home to finish up, but wanting to follow my docs instructions, I went home and took a NAP instead!
Hey he said something had to go!

Everyone have the very best day you possible can....I"M GOING TOO!

= CONFUSED is the primary definition of the icon
= WONDERING

You gave us the HOOK that you stopped to fish.

The FIRST rule (when you say you went fishing) is that you HAVE to relate whether you were successful, or just spent an hour with the line getting wet and testing out a couple lures.

Rather that sound the siren that you were in violation of rule #1, I took the quiet route - I KNOW, that is so far out of character you missed it.

Bad Joedog, your penalty for violating RULE #1 is that you must spend 15 minutes on the Tackle Warehouse webpage, but you are NOT ALLOWED TO BUY ANYTHING, not even a new hook - OR touch yourself at anytime while viewing..................

NO TOUCHING....I'm not promising anything....but I'll try.
With those rules I can't even count the 1/2 hour I spent there last night at 3 am.

Bruce, me breaking the rules? That ME.

I also think maybe you should invite your doctor to join us here at the forums. We just might change his mind.

Kieth thanks but no worries.
I don't want ANYONE to focus on my friend. He gets MORE than enough attention now.
This all happened like a week ago and every time I'd come to the forum I'd see that crazy signature and I'd start to smile again. Fact is my friend and I have had a lot of adventures together and he's really NOT good company!
Rarely ends the way I planned.
That's what all the 3-5 am posts are due to. I got to check my bloods at that time cause I.....lets just say I have too.
But I thank him for my sense of humor.

One last note.
I once and awhile say things about the medical profession that is not flattering. I know their are members here in that profession and I wish to apologize to anyone and everyone who I may have offended!
I have the utmost respect for ALL of you!
It's just a way I deal with my friend.
I mean NO disrespect!

joe..i've been wondering. are oyu on the pump? see my mother is a diabetic and she is on the pump. she has other issues as well but her sugar is GREAT since she has had the pump installed. she hasn't had a issues with her sugar in a liong time. but her other issues, arthuritis, restless leg and a couple other things hav taken a toll onher. she is 74 by the way so her age is not helping either. i have seen her go through a few things no one wants to witness from their parents who have diabeties....one day they will hav a cure. i pray and pray.

keep you humor right where it's at joe. love ya man. no joke or pun either.

Ya we or THEY considered it but the pump is really geared towards the unfortunate folks who have a tendency to run high. It's a delivery system and the newer ones will beep or notify you that your running high. Then gage it and deliver.
High blood sugars kill you slowly because when sugars are high your blood vessels expand, when low they contract. Blood vessels in average folks stay stable. Hence no wear and tear. The veins get worn out. The little ones faster.
That's why we go blind, and lower limb problems because imagine how small the eye vessels are. Other than the lens and Corina and stuff, the eyes are basically little blood vessels. Legs have some larger but you would be amazed how many small veins run through your lower limbs.

My 'friends' challenge is running low. See the thing that has everyone confused is that I take in as much daily Carb intake as TWO 6 foot men.
and I lost weight.
My sugars can be be perfect, actually I run mine a little high, 145 because they can crash for NO reason and fast.

Now here's where the fun starts, my body gives NO pre-warning symptoms. I don't get sweaty, dizzy, or nervous or nothing. I can function REALLY low but lets say I am and don';t know it
But it does mess with my mind.
But I can physically function fairly well down to 30. Most people coma at 40.
Fact I went one time for my doctor visit, (I go every three months so the state gets a report so I can drive), and after the visit I went to my car and checked my bloods. Something just didn't feel right so that's why I checked.
My sugars were 25. The doc had no idea. I went back in and refueled but the doc was surprised. He hadn't noticed a problem. And that's all this doc does is diabetics.
That in a nut shell is my friends challenge.

Oh I got to add this because again I just find it hilarious. When the paramedics come to my home they've been there enough and know EXACTLY what they are heading in for. They send SIX people. One to sit on each arm, one for each leg. one to main line me and one to read the equipment. Got to remember I'm 5'5" 130. See my mind goes at around 20-25 but my body still wants to play. And I NEVER remember anything except after a lot of thought I'll remember parts. It's crazy. I'm told I'm just a TERRER to deal with. And actually I'm doing better...sort of . No paramedics for a year and a half.

But my prayers are with you and your mother John and thank you for your thoughts and well wishes.

My friend gives me some challenges and a lot of funny stories. But us young folk (I got my friend at 16) it's just a few minor adjustments to our activities and diets. But the elderly who are insulin dependent diabetics, life can be HELL.

Sorry about the long post anglers I just thought some explanation was due.

i understand EXACTLY what oyu are saying joe. my mom has the "friend" for over 40 years, so i know about the zombie stage. lol. i am so glad oyu are able to laugh at yourself, mom does too. my dad....well, let's jsut say he is not one ot find humor in it. of course mom is the love of his life and i understand his reasoning. but still....it CAN be funny sometimes. oyujust keep on keeping on brother. mom is coming towards the end of her life here on earth, she even says so....and yes, it KILLS me to see her go down like this. she fights it and NEVER complains. i start belly aching from paper cuts, then i realize what my mother AND my wife have gone through (lisa is in her 4th year after having a kidney transplant) and beat myself up cause i am so lucky NOT to have either of those problems. thank you for the prayers joe.

John I have always said, " My friend makes my life sometimes challenging but for the ones who love you....IT'S MISERY!"

Here's an untold (why it's not told to EVERY insulin dependent diabetic I'll never know) secret.
When we hit that 'gray area' when the mind goes and we get very 'uncooperative' some times 'we' get very crazed. I think it's a combination of things, the minds working over time on absolutely nothing, embarrassment, self perseverance and We're used to doing most this diabetic crap on our own daily and the insulin is attacking your nervous system (your mind).
Anyways the tip,
If the person is still conscious but won't take juice or your afraid they could choke when trying to swallow, take a packet of sugar you find in restaurants and rub it on their gums. The sugar naturally absorbs into the bloodstream and after a short time 'presto' the monster you've been dealing with the last hour is gone! And that person you LOVE returns.
This also is a great way to help an 'unconscious diabetic". Remember though a packet or tablespoon is enough.
See whats happening is when the insulin we take can't find carbs or sugars to convert IT attacks the nervous system and that in lay terms is what runs our bodies.
As soon as sugar is added to the blood stream the insulin then will target the sugars. Carbs work but need to be digested first before the insulin chooses to attack them. So NO quick turn around.
My boy has done this dozens of times and if he chooses to call the meds I'm usually awake and functioning by the time they arrive. He's found me passed out over a day and it still brought me out.

This tip maybe handy for ALL you folks that have an insulin dependent diabetic you love. Heck, help them even if their not your favorite.

Hey everyone have the VERY BEST day you possible can and keep the 'friends' at bay!

ok,enough....take care joe.

Jeez Joe...and you woulda been a piece of work without the 'friend'! hehe
I feel for you. I've been very lucky, but my wife was seriously ill years ago (was bedridden for over two years) with a viral inner ear infection that caused some damage.
Life alone can present challenges, let alone when you (or a spouse) have health issues to deal with that complicate things considerably.
Hang in there.
