Default now that were a storm

friday night i was at my folk's house. -were i house my boat- it starts to thunder so i back out of the car port to the barn that i keep it in. 50 feet from the carport. while taking the reese hitch out of the truck it starts to sprinkle. as i near the rear wheel of my ford ranger a bolt of lighting hits the large white oak tree 45 feet from me. i look up and all i see is chunks of bark 2-5 feet long flying at me. i hit the dirt letting it hit the truck and barn. crazy i am stupid i am NOT. a limb slightly smaller than a basket ball in diamater lands on the carport-flattening it-i finish hitching up as 70-80mph gust of wind blow rain 30 feet back into the barn. it is pouring down very hard with lots of lighting and thunder. when it hits the ground near the house. blowing a hole 3 feet acrossed and 6 feet deep in the lawn. shortly afterward my cell phone rings mom says it has "fryed the cordless phone" i told her as soon as it lets up i would take a look at it. after about 1 hour the rain just stops. i score this storm a 8 -no hail no twister- most definatly one of the nastier thunder storms i have seen short of a hurricane. mom was not joking about her phone.it melted the juntion box in the side of her house in to a gob of grey plastic. melted the cable to the floor jack which it melted down cutting the jack plug off continuing up to the amplfied ringer which it melted to the wall. it hit a staple in the line burning a hole the size of a golf ball through wood paneling. and nailing the cordless phone base. removing it from the wall and chunking it acrossed the room with a hole melted through it.

the only thing that really is depressing was that 5 miles to the north my brother in law was putting a roof on a house in town it never rained there..

I remember in High School me and some of the boys were just sitting around bored as all hell when a little shower comes up. One of them offhand makes a curious remark, "I don't care for the rain, but its always cool to see some thunder and lightning". 2 seconds later we hear a lone rumble of thunder. The shower ends.

I go home, to find that that lone rumble of thunder was the echo coming from a strike that hit the large hackberry tree in my yard - current got into my house and fried all the modems and all but 1 of the tvs.

The nest day I rained down upon that kid who had doomed all the electronics in my house a storm of curses that mother-nature has never matched. Did I know it wasn't his fault? Sure, but it made me feel better about my tv.

Zook,
we had a bad one too, when the cold front moved it gave us 4 inches of much needed rain and then for about 3 minutes had hail..
2 years ago I got a new roof on my house due to insurance paying for it after hail destroyed it.
I roof on the side but my house is 3 story with a 7/12 pitch, I wasn't going to do it, I'll stick with easier jobs.
I had to have my cars fixed to, they had dents all over the place.
Good thing was this time, the next morning only 5 hours after the storm, the bass where super charged, (friday morning) , I got 8 that day and each one fought like crazy..in fact this year they all have been real spunky for some reason, it feels good to be on the water every day 8)
