I took my 2.5 hp Merc to 2 shops to fix a starting problem. Fine starting in the shop, but when a tried to start it on the transom - nothing!
![]() The cost to fix the motor + truck gas to get to the shops wasn't cheap! After 3 trips between the two, I figured I may as well get a new one. I got it and assembled it, but put off using it. I also ordered a Newport 62# thrust trolling motor (man is it powerful!!) But day after day, I tried to start the 2.5 - no luck. Something I never considered was the vent on the gas cover not opening. Note: the air was much cooler in the shops where the motor did start, but much hotter in the sun. Woosh! air rushed into the gas tank after I loosened the cap - the motor started and ran at a slow idle for 5 minutes not stalling once! I started it day after day - no problem Too bad incompetence is rewarded and no refund for a fix that failed. Good thing I solved the problem of a stiff trolling motor foot control on my bass boat. It was recommended I replace it, along with the extra cost of installation. It was a simple solution and now it works fine changing t.m. direction.. |
