I just got a cheap Quantum reel from Wal-Mart to see if I like it. It is a lot more work and difficult to be accurate so far. I am still not sure of the advantage. Hopefully somebody can help us both.

How much is "reasonably" priced. The Daiwa Procaster 6+1/ BPS Bionic Blade combo runs for about 100 dollars and I have a good opinion about both, a Curado/ BPS Extreme runs from 170 to 190 depending upon the model of reel. Those are the ones I recommend.

For starting out I would use an Abu Garcia Ambassauer 6000 or 5600. You can get them from Wal-mart. They come with either a Berkly Lightning rod or an Ugly Stick............................

I'd suggest getting a name brand combo like Shimano or Diawa, but you don't need to go real expensive. You can get a good, working combo at someplace like WalMart for 50-60 bucks to learn with and move up from there.

I agree with Raul. That bionic blade(my favorite rod of all time, even more than $200 rods) combo for $100 is a super value.
