I want to invest in a new spinning outfit, very soon, and would like to know your thoughts on what kind of rod/reel combo to invest in? I am going to Cabela's this weekend and just thought I'd ask the best rod/reel between 50 and 60 dollars thanks!

rrw, I am a big spinning gear fan and I think I will agree with everyone that has posted I have a Diawa that has been a good reel and I also have one of the Mitchell Avocat that has been a good reel. The Mitchell has the feel of a cheap reel but if you will pick up some quantum hot sauce reel oil at Cabelas and oil it, it will feel like a high dollar reel.

I have twin Shimano Sedona 4000FB reels and can't complain one bit. About $50 and not a single problem.

I would have to say that when it comes to spinning reeels all the major companies build excellant spinning reels. When I buy new spinning reels I always try to remeber what I will be fisahing on it. It is imperative you buy a reel that will handle the rod/lure/line combo that I am gonna fish on it and above all else it is even more important to buy the reel with the most ball bearings. In a spinning reel you cant have to many ball bearings due to there nature.Just my 2 cents worth.

Its crazy to get a spinning reel with 6 bearings for 120 dollars when you can get one with 7 or 8 bearings for just 30 or 40 bucks................... Just as good if not better.........

Just because a reel boasts the fact that it has 6 or whatever ball bearings doesnt always make it a good one. Alot of the reels tought having 6 or more ball bearings but they fail to mention what type of layup system the reel has. As far as I am concerned you gotta have a worm gear oscillation system to go with the ball bearings and a ALUMINUM body. Get a aluminum body spinning reel with as many ball bearings as you can afford with the worm gear oscillation feature and I ASSURE you you will not ne sorry. I have tried the othere reels and when you hook a better than average bass on it the graphite body reels torque up and then you have a problem trying to reel in the fish. With a aluminum body and high count of ball bearings the problems disppears. As far as the worm gear oscillation what it enables you to do is cast farther and you can just about forget about those &%$*^ knots of line that go shooting of the spool ALL at once and also your line has far less memory.

another vote for the mitchell avocet. You can match it up with a decent rod for around 50 bucks. I have one on my ultralite set up and it works great. Havent has any complaints about it.
