Well, the cool has left and the Hot is back. The fishing has held steady on most days. The lake has really felt the drought. The water has dropped to about 3 feet low. This can spell trouble for some anglers as some of the areas they have been running will have stumps showing up or just under the surface. The main boat lanes will be more easily found now. But caution should be on ones mind. The water temp is still holding in the low to mid 80’s. The Mornings have been good for top water, spinner baits, Texas, Carolina rigs, and small crank baits.

Top water has been good with smaller top water baits. Work them several jerks and let sit and if the fish are schooling just throw into them and work it fast and stop. ¼ to 3/8 ounce spinner baits with willow leaf blades have been good over grass and off main lake points. I have started some mornings Texas and Carolina rigs with Lake Fork Trophy Bait and Tackle Twitch Worms or Baby Ring Fries and Wave Worms Baby Tiki Sticks, and The New Shadick. The Shadick has been a good weightless bait for fishing around the grass.

I have been working the humps and main lake points with the above mentioned baits. I have been running some Deep diving crank baits over the humps like DD-22. This bait will wear you out but it may get you the bite of a life time. Some are trolling over the humps with the deep divers. With gas prices this is pretty cost prohibitive for me.

When working the points start in shallow and work out as the sun gets up. Keep a lipless crank bait tied on as the schooling fish will be out and about during the day. I like a tail spinner as the shad are small right now and the smaller the better. MATCH THE HATCH.

I have been finding the Yellow bass stacking up on the humps and this is a good sign the big fish are on the way along the crappie. The crappie have been slow under bridges but brush piles have produced some nice fish.
