Well, the McDonald tournament may be in for a big surprise. With Rita moving in our direction there may be a slow event. The Main road from Houston which is I - 45 is blocked with traffic. If you didn’t get out sooner than today you may be sitting out the tournament in your car on I- 45. The wind may play a part of the tournament with strong gust and plenty of rain.. If you have not seen any in a while get your cameras ready as we will get some much needed rain. I hope we get the three to five inches they are talking about. We could use it and hopefully it will bring the lake up.

The fishing will change some as the storm will change the bite. It may turn on like crazy and everyone will catch fish. The main thing is to think safe. No money is worth your life. The winds can churn up the lake and cause very large swells. The mornings have been started with top water baits like pop’r style baits. Small shallow running crank baits over the grass have been good starters. Small spinner baits is another good choice. I have worked weightless baits like wacky worms, flukes Magic Shads and Shadics around grass and schooling fish.

Carolina and Texas rigs will be the best workers for the tournament as the boat traffic will slow the bite by Saturday.

If it cools down the buzz bait and frog type baits will be good starters.

Keep safe and watch the weather. Show sportsmanship over the three days as tempers will flair. Remember that if you see someone catching fish don’t pull up on them as you would be angry if they pulled up on you.
