Default Hot Fall Bass Fishing in Delaware

Lake: Noxontown
Location: Middletown, Delaware
Date: 10/27/05
Weather: partly cloudy- 42-50 degrees air temperature
Water Temperatures: 50-54 degrees
Water color: stained
Visibility: 1 foot
Clarity: 80%
Wind: 7-17 MPH
Time fished: 10:00 AM til 3:00 PM
Baits used: Lucky Craft crankbait, Terminator spinnerbait, Terminator jig/Sweet Beaver
Top producing bait: Terminator Jig/Sweet Beaver trailer (90%)

We got to Noxontown Lake late today, and there was a state of Delaware electroshocking boat just launching. There was one other boat there fishing. It was very cold with the wind, and we started with a search bait, a Terminator spinnerbait, which was the bait we caught them all on the last time we were there on the 25th, just 2 days ago.

We caught several nice bass along the wall by the ramp and up to the first cove on the left. they were all around 2.5 pounds. Not as hot as the other day, but it was very cold the last few nights.

We worked up the lake on the south shore with the Terminator spinnerbaits, and landed several bass of the same size and 3 chain pickerel that were hard fighters from 2.8 to a little under 4 pounds.

After working several of the areas we worked on the 25th with success, we decided that all the bass were about the same size from all the areas, and we wanted some that were bigger. Having caught numerous bass from Noxontown in the past that were over 6 pounds, including one that I caught in 1999, that was 10.16, just under the state record, we knew they were there, we just had to figure out the pattern.

We tried the crankbaits and Rat-l-Traps, and it caught a few more in the 2 pound range, fun, but not what we wanted.

We then tied on 2 Terminator 1/2 ounce Pro's Top Secret jigs with Sweet Beavers for trailers and started hitting all the wood and ledges near deeper water.

Well, all I can say is WOW!! Talk about a great jig bite for big fish!
We caught almost 30 ponds of bass on those jigs in the next 2 hours.

Some came from pads, some from docks, some from ledges, and some from rocks and grass with wod nearby. All sorts of cover.
They were all between 2.9 and 6.1 pounds. 3 of the bass were between 4.9 and 5.3 pounds, with a few 3's and 4's mixed in. We videotaped it all, as we were losing track of how many we caught.

All in all, at the end of the day, Kurt had culled several times, and ended up with a five fish limit of 21.2 pounds! I had 14.5 from the back of the boat! We ended up with 8 chain pickerel that were all nice from 2.8 to 4 pounds. What a day!

Noxontown closes for the year until March on Sunday, so we now have to decide should we enter a tournament on the upper bay or go back and try for the state record which is worth more than $100,000 dollars to us in sponsor money and endorsements. ??
We will sleep on it, and see what we think in the morning. Until next time, tight lines, Steve and Kurt, Reltimeanglers/Delaware Tackle, S&K Guides.
