Cranky,
I don't dislike you, it's the attitude you have occasionally. As for you and your dad, that's something you should try to work out. I'm not your dad, but I bet he cares for you a great deal, you guys just don't see eye to eye on things. And what teenager in this world ever sees eye to eye with their parents, I sure didn't. Get some mid priced stuff, and be a better person because of it. Just because one person isn't doing the right thing doesn't mean you should follow their example. Go to a local store, pick up some different rods and reels, and see what you like. The only reccommendation I will give is that if you are gonna use it for Bass fishing, and depending on your height, a 6' or 6'6" medium heavy would be the best choice for a all around rod. If you are shore fishing a lot, and creeping through the woods, perhaps a 2 piece rod would be a better choice. Because you can break it down quickly and get through with less hanging in the trees. Other than that, get one, like I said, that you like and feels comfortable. If you stick to Bassin, then you will be buying a lot more over the years, and find out what you like. Maybe it will be a Quatum, or maybe a Shimano, or maybe a Abu? It all about personal preferences when it comes to fishing. Just like some folks are power fisherman, and some folks are finesse fisherman. Doesn't mean you can't switch gears, but everyone prefers a certain type over another. And above all else POWER is not easy to handle sometimes, so if you have it, and want to use it for selfish reasons, then become a politician Lizards

Cranky, Lizards gives some great advice. Go somewhere that has tackle and pick up a few rods and reels and see which one feels best. You can still order what you want, but you will know how it feels from the git-go, and you won't be disappointed if you don't like the one you ordered without trying it first.

Cranky,
good to hear you wnet down on your pricing for your dad. As for the Rods/Reels Maybe pick up 2, a Bass Pro Woo Daves Extreme Spinning Rod, with Shimano Stradic, I think one guy on NJBA got one for around 100 dollars. It is a spinning set up, you can get it in 7ft M 2 piece rod. Then I would look into a cheap Tackle Bag or Fishing Vest to carry your stuff around. Personally I would go with a Vest, little boxes for your lures to put in it, and a 3700 tray for stuff that dont fit. That way you stay light and mobile. For Lures, you awere allowed what 30-40? 4 Packs Gammakatzu Hooks, EWG Size 1/0 and 2/0, regular J Bend 2/0, circle hook size 6 1 pack Bullet Wieghts 1/16th oz 1 pack egg sinkers 1/8oz 1 Pack Swivels 1 pack Zoom Flukes 3 Packs of GAry Yamamoto Senkos in 4 inch 1 Pack Power Worm 7inch in Black 1 Pack Yum WoolyHawgtails 1 or 2 Packs Zoom 4 inch Lizards 3 Orginal Rapalas Size F9 in Brook trout, black silver, gold silver 2 Husky Jerks, silver and gold 4 Rapala DT series baits, one DT4, one DT6, one DT10, one DT16 2 Rapala Skitter Walks 2 Rapala Skitter Pops 2 Rapala Skitter Props 5 Rapala Jointed Minnows, in natural colors size J11 1 Spool of Cajun Red in 10 lb test, it goes clear in water. Good Luck out there!

Id go with the pflueger because of price and the similar gear ratio with higher ball bearings

hmm... second time a stradic is reccomended to me. i kinda dont like how it looks, but... and this time, i get to choose my gear so i want something good, since ill never have a chance like this again. i plan on buying a backup thats cheaper, with my own money.
lures are 50. hooks and terminal tackle dont count though, i need to buy my own. i was thinking a sort of 30 hardbait, and 20 bags of plastics since each bag of stuff i was looking at came in 50. and i do want some megabass. but the rapalas, i have a skitter pop and a huskyjerk and original. what do you think about the countdown, shad rap, and x-rap? im definetely buying a few DTs. and i hear senkos are overpriced, i can buy better baits for the same price. as for lizards, there are none around where i fish. shouldnt i match the hatch? cajun red lots of people like... is it a mono? i might try it. i plan on getting one mono and one fluoro |
