Well, the wind has been a factor to deal with this week. The first part of the week was just 25 miles per hour. The end of the week brought 30 with gust to 40 miles per hour. The fish were on a big move to the shallows and continued to bite if you could find a cove with not as much wind. The water is holding around 60 degrees and in some coves it is a little higher. The rain and wind has most creeks muddy to stained. This was will warm a little quicker and the fish will bite. Spinner baits with Colorado blades in gold will get the fish going in the muddy water. Don’t let muddy water deter you from fishing in an area. Sometimes this is a better area as the fish can’t see as well and react quicker to hit a bait.
Lake Fork Tackle Ring Fries,, ZigZag, Twitch worms, and lizards have been good. The Ring Fry fished weightless with a 4/0 hook has been awesome. I pitch the bait to stumps and lay downs or cast it to the same areas. Let it sit for as long as you can then only move it a inch or two. Dead sticking is a better term. The Twitch worm and ZigZag fished wacky have been good. Work these bait’s a little faster. The lizard I am putting on a small Carolina rig. I am working 3 to 5 foot flats on the first break. There is a new finesse worm at Lake Fork Tackle that is great for putting on a small jig head and fished on a spinning reel and light line. When the bite gets tough scale down and flip this small bait around the trees and stumps and look out!!! This can make a difference sometimes between going home fishless or having a great day. The Wave Tiki stick, Shadick, Moko Lizard, and Craw Dude have been good starters. Fish these baits around the banks and out to 10 foot of water. I like to pitch the Craw Dude on a ¼ ounce weight around trees and stumps. I like to fish it weightless to. Tiki Sticks and Shadicks with dipped tails fished weightless or with a very small split shot have been very good. The crappie are showing up in the shallow. I recently caught a 2.5 from three feet of water on a plastic worm. The full moon will get us going into a full blown spawn. We have a cold front coming but it should not cause much problems. Get out and go fishing. I still have a couple of days open if you want to book something give me a call. Jim Reaneau 1-888-918-5088 |
