and of course with the full moon the bite has been great. This year I've been picking an choosing my days on the water, and having a bonaza on the super cloudy days, they are so dark the fish are eager to bite.
This weekend Denny and me went north and fished sunday in the drizzle and had about a dozen each of 14 inch fish, and man they were "scrappy" in their hard pulling fight! Air temp was 67 and rain, NE wind of 4-6... we both were fishing rebs spinnerbait and getting good bites, and of course switched baits to see what else they would hit, for some reason on that day the spook didn't yeild any hits, the minus 1 in crawdad / blue back got me 3 fish, denny was throwing the frog, then out of the blue he tied on the electric grape Culprit ribbon tail worm ,and they were inhaling it! I ended up "beating up" quiet a few fish that day, I was flipping over about 15 feet of fallen timber, small willow trees that were no bigger than 3 inches in diameter and 15 ft long, a big wind knocked down a section of them along a dam. The bass were in about 9 feet of water and as soon as I felt the hit on the powerpro, I had to reel like mad to get them up and over the timber, then the last 6 feet I had to horse them over a few trees that were sticking up over the water, which resulted in me banging the bass's nose against the log about 3 times before it flipped over to my feet . One flipped in the air and did a nose dive into the muck, and was stuck in it, I reached over and freed her . All in all great day, the rain n coolness kinda soaked in to the joints and I was tired n sore just a tad, dennys wrist was soar the next day too. The bass must have been laying under some shade for days, most were really dark/black on their backs. I figure its a couple weeks past post spawn , and with the full moon they were eager to bite, also pnj, several had your "patented sharp teeth", and I do mean sharp! So of course we flipped creatures and other plastics at em, and they were willing to oblige! |
