Well, the heat is really on here in Texas. I just got back from Alabama on a trip and the weather was way cooler there and we did have some rain. NOT the case here. The long range fore cast calls for 100 degrees for a long way out. The lake will start really falling now with the evaporation and no rain. You will need to be careful with the operating of your boat as many of the under trees will start coming close to the top. The fishing has been hit or miss based on a few people I have talked to. The mornings have been started with top water and Texas and Carolina rigs. Working the edges of the grass on main lake points. Lake Fork Tackle Twitch Worms, Baby Creatures, Baby ring Fries, and the Big Creature have all been good. Wacky worm the Twitch worm with a little weight like a finish nail and work the grass edges.
During the middle of the day the fish will suspend over deep humps. You will need your electronics to find these fish. Mark the area and back off and use a count down method to get the proper depth and you should be able to catch these fish. Swim baits, jigs, spinner baits, and lipless crank baits will be good count down baits. Dropping jigs around creek channels will catch a few fish and maybe the right one. There some big fish caught in the summer we just don’t get many fishermen who will come out to fish for them. The night time will be some fishermen’s favorite time to get out. You will need to prepare for a night trip. BUG spray, night lights on your boat, a good spot light, and keep your life jackets on. Work areas you are familiar with as going down a bank at night is way different than during the day. You wont be able to see the under water stumps you usually go around with your trolling motor. Big black and blue jigs, ten inch worms in dark colors, spinner baits with a Colorado blade, and dark colored top water are the best choice of night fishermen. Remember both lights have to be on if your moving with the big motor or the trolling motor. If you tie up or anchor you only need the back light. Put in close as possible to where you plan to fish as this will cut down the amount of time to get back in case of and accident or weather problem. The crappie are still running small under the bridges but a limit can be caught with a little effort. The brush is still holding better fish in 25 foot of water 18 to 20 foot down. Move around till you find a good tree or stump. Jim Reaneau 1-888-918-5088 |
