what in the world would cause line on a baitcasting reel to twist. i respool, within a half day of fishing line slack line twists up around itself, around rod tip, causes knots in the line. respool, same thing again.

what lure are you fishing with... for instance, if you fish with one of my noodles, then your line will twist if you dont use a good ball bearing swivel.

You should also be spooling it straight off the spool, with a bit of tension.

i should have stated that this has only been happening for a couple of weeks. i spool straight off of the spool with some tension. i use this combo mainly for fishing t-rigged worms or lizards with bullet weight.
i have not changed anything. i am not aware of anything on a baitcaster that can cause line twist if it is not working properly. |

i'll be more observant of the way i'm rigging them, but man i've been fishing soft plastics with baitcasters and spinning reels for years and i've never experienced this with a baitcaster before. i just happened to think while i was typing this reply, that all of this line i am respooling with is off of the same bulk spool. do you think i got a bad spool of line?

It might be the line-I haven't heard of that happening to a baitcaster either. Spinning reels, sure, but not a baitcaster.
Welcome to the forum, BTW!

Never tried it, in fact, I saw the guy get bood on Bill Dance for advertising it, but he makes a product called Texas Twister, it's basically a worm hook with a little swivel attached to it, and I mean a little swivel. Not sure what his site is, but google Texas Twister, I sent for some samples, but have not received them yet.
I only have line twist with one worm, the Reaction Innovations Dominator, the rest seem to work OK for me. |

g_mo, I doubt it is the way you are rigging-if it was it probably would have happened before. Not much help, I know-I really don't have a clue.

See Maybe I am way off but have you cahnged brands on the swivels, hooks, plastics etc also?
I keep thinking that it has something to do with either the retreive, type of bait, or other component.

next time i go out i'm going to try a swivel. nope, i haven't changed brands. use trigged culprits, a brand called charlie's worms, lizards. i fish them slow, bouncing across bottom, lift and fall, either way, i fish slow. i'm going to spool up with different line, probably a braid with a swivel and a flouro leader. i'll see what happens.

Pull it all out, put some KVD's stuff or Reel Magic on a cloth, and reel it up while having a damp cloth of it going over the line. But before you do. give it a decent pull, to staighten it out(tie the end ot a tree or something, and not too much pull) Then spray some more stuff on it. Or better yet, just go get some Braid and be done with all that stuff rotfl. Sorry couldn't help myself. Flukes and weightless stuff can give you line twist. As already stated, a GOOD bearing swivel will aleaviate that. Just tie the swivel anywhere from 6"-18" up. Good way to use a leader of Flourocarbon off of BRAID/FUSED line if you really want it.

Having used big game, its definitely a line that will store memory. If its been on the spool for a while, then I would most likely bet that its your culprit. The big game I used to use would do the same thing, no matter how much I straightened it out and did all the tricks to it.
Like lizards suggested, I switched to braid for heavy line applications(mine was 20lb big game) and its about as carefree as you can get. |
