Default be afraid,be very afraid

i fished a local tourney last nite.started at 10 p.m.there were only 9 boats and 10 anglers.started raining a little with some thunder and lightening off in the distance.to make a long story short, the storm came up very fast.5 of us got hit by lightening, fortunately it was not a direct hit.2 guys got knocked out and 3 of us(myself included)got zapped through our trolling motor pedals and rods.i saw a huge spark on my rod and it got knocked out of my hand as i got thrown back into my pedestal seat.my left arm and leg are still buzzing.
luckily no one got killed or hurt bad.this is the LAST TIME i will ever fish when i can see any little bit of lightening.a lesson learned.don't try to be a smart a** like we were.

i've always heard if you can see it anywhere in the distance to put the rod down and get off the water...I've been surprised to see FLW tournies and others fish with a storm on the horizon

damn....pretty soon your gonna be like the guy from the GREAT OUTDOORS that got struck 66 times in the head!

Seriously though dang glad your are not dead!

One guy I talked to before was out fishing one time and the bait went up into the air like a kite on the cast due to all the static electricity in the air....he said he would never fish after that!

fishie,
sadly, as the days went by after the lightning,
tommy put his rods down and his new obsession became
playing with the dangerous volts

Dang, Tom! Glad you didn't get hit any worse! That lightning is scary stuff, especially when you are on the water. Hope all involved are OK.

Awesome, a brand new experience huh. JK of course, and awful glad your still around to come down south fishing. As Reb stated, hope EVERYONE was OK. We do get a lot of those pop-up storms down here. When it looks close, I go to the dock.

Well, anyone who fishes on a lake with a name like that is asking for it!

Mebbe you should stick to something like Lake Babybutt, Bambi Reservoir, or Lake Mothers Milk...sound safer, don't they?

Glad everyone is OK. Since you are physically alright, any damage to the boat or electronics?? By the way, did you win??

Thunder roaring and lightening splashing, right through the middle Tom goes fishing. Sometimes there is no way out when a fast moving electrical storm comes in. Tom, it is good to know you are ok and there was no damage to you and your friends. Carpy & Polly Ann

Glad to hear there weren't any serious injuries. Thursday I did some fishing at the river from shore, got my lucky craft stuck in a tree. Took the boat out in a thunderstorm to retrieve it. I know I was pushing my luck. Read this thread, went fishing Saturday night and chose not to take the boat out because of the storm, paid off cause a caught a nice bass on a topwater RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME IN CLEAR WATER from the shore.......after the storm!!!
