I can't say for sure but one thing I will add is for you to get a feel in your hand for the different rods. From my experience different manufacturers will rate rods differently, I have a Medium from one company that is a lot more stout than a MH from another.
I am using a 7' Medium for cranks so I can throw them a long way and it has a soft tip. Jigs a 6'6" MH that seems really firm to me. Worms 6' (should be longer, but that is what I have) M rods that seems like a MH. I think that you want a Heavy rod for pitchin and flippin, I don't have one but a 7' er is next on my list. |

pb pretty much summed it up on lenght..once you get past that like bender said, it comes to comfort and what looks good to the eye...
I have a variety of pistol grip, casting and flipping handles..I prefer cork, with a trigger, plus a open space under the rod/reel to feel the blank, although with this power pro the sensitivity, I don't need to hold the blank for feel as much as I used to. I like my 5-6 short rod for jerking a rogue, a 7 ft for flipping, have 4 6-6 MH for casting cranks and spinners, then compliment that with dif geared reels for whatever I am throwing. It comes done to what you buddies all like for your region, plus what you can afford IMO..if I were you I'd get good rods for 100 buck range if you can afford it. |

a good 7' heavy action fenwick is what i chunk spinnerbaits on.. also use the same rod-action and lenth- for carolina rigging and jig pitching/flipping.. texas rigs i like to use a mh action 6.6 or 7 foot rod. i am really liking the 6.6 sirrus rod i got. and my favorite rod the fenwick techna av. cranking i use 2 types-3 rods- two 7 footers a fenwick medium ,a lews speed stick medium, and a 7.6 american rodsmith fritts rod which is mh. i use the fritts rod for deep diving cranks only. the fenwick has a higher speed reel-6.3- on it i use it for shallow fast presentations-and lipless- zooker

Rods, are like reels, reels are like line, and line is like cars. Every one has their favorite brand, and most stick with it. Usually, most brands rods at the same price range, perform pretty equally. You go with a 100$ Fenwick, or a 105$ Falcon, and they shouldn't be too much different, if they are, power to the better company. The only time a rod should blow another in the same price range out of the water, is if it is custom, hand-made, to your specefications.

I am going to do an experiment. I am upgrading my rods, and I plan to buy a few more, so I will buy a Fenwick, in the 100$ range, a All Star in the 100$ range, and maybe a St.Croix in the 100$ range, and see how they hold up against my Falcon.

For me,a 6'6" mh rad, with ahard tip, is the most versatile, but I use it mostly a a soft plastic rod.

I stick to 6' to 7' rods. Many rods are more versatile than people let on....the truest advantage to multiple setups is that you don't have to cut and re-tie as often. Otherwise, most everyone could fish the way they do with 3 setups.
For spinning gear, I just like 6' rods...just what I do for baitcasters, I will use a 6' when I am downsizing and/or wanting to cast up under stuff for crankbaits, soft plastics, and things like that, I use a 6'6" medium action.(trust me, its strong enough). for spinnerbaits and some soft plastics(horny toad mainly) I use a 6'6" medium heavy. for Jigs, and the good ole c-rig 7' medium heavy. |

Since you seem to be doing a lot of shore fishing, I would stick with 6'6" or smaller on the rods. Just easier to maneuver in the trees(yeah I saw the tree bass LOL). I use MH for most everything except crankbaits, and half the time I use a Heavy rod for pitching flipping. But make sure you get a Shimano reel, because "EVERYONE" loves those, PNJ, dodgeguy, Rebasser, even VAbass22 rotflmao.
