Default This time I'm angry!

Well let me tell you a little story about something I really hate. I have been on the net for some time now, ever since the net has been around, where you had to put your hand set into a receiver to get on the net I was there. Anyway,I absolutely love being on the net, I love meeting new people and learning new things. And the possibility of looking up anything you want at the touch of a button astounds me to this day. And I believe every one in the world should have this at their disposal.I also believe that you should be able to roam the net with out having to be harassed, bullied,or victimized by senseless people who use the net for there own malicious behavior. Last week I was on the receiving end of such said behavior. I got a bad virus from where I don't know but never the less there should be no viruses on the net to begin with. I think I got it on a site registry but not a 100% on that.(if you talk to Zook he will say it was from a porn site! "NOT THIS TIME" Zook sorry.) 1st virus was a back door virus where some moron can control your computer from his position and over ride you and make your computer do what ever they want. the second was a Trojan virus which hides in a file or document and hides in your start up files and is a true menace. So let these computer nerds be aware if I ever find a guy doing this type of thing, lets just say I'll show them why they call me SGNT SLAUGHTER. Because I think we have the right as paying customers and damn fine people to have the right to be on the net without be subjected to this type of thing."and thats where I've been for th last five days, reprogramming my computer from scratch".

I wish you all luck in your endeavors on the net, and watch your selfs you never know when your going to come in contact with a virus nerd.

Robby.

You know I've never understood the vindicative nature of some people.

You know, why some people just get their jollies from being a pain in the ***, and causing everyone else so much trouble.

Its like driving down a large street in an urban enviroment, and having some guy jaywalk across, taking forever on purpose so you have to stop going wherever you are going because he is poor and disaffected and wants to waste a second of your time for his enjoyment. One of these days I'm gonna be in a hurry and run his *** over.

pnj,
"Helkern" infects only computers running Microsoft SQL Server 2000, a multi-functional database system widely used primarily on Web-servers. To home users of any Windows version without the installion of Microsoft SQL Server the worm poses no threat.

get a mac and you wont have any virus problems lol, but seriously invest in a firewall, will save you much time and maybe money in the long run.

You could install lineux or mozilla firefox , most viruses are made to attack Windows users

I know how you feel about those people Rob. I work as an IT engineer and one of my jobs is to remvoe viruses if they happen to make it past our DMZ here at work. Since I started this job, I have not had to reprogram any computer due to viruses because I have learned how to find them and remove them. I have learned to use some of the best tools in the trade and no, I don't mean just scanning a hard drive with a recovery disk. A person would be surprised to hear how many viruses are out there that Mcafee, or Norton has not heard of or has protection for. I have said a number of times that if I ever catch anyone building, or distribting a virus I would personally choke them until they turn blue and then use them as fish bait. They are nothing but a pain in the rear end and a waste of time to have to deal with.

Just had this conversation with my dad. The only way this is gonna stop is for the government to actually track down these jerks, and prosecute them. It's amazing how many just get ignored. The Billions, yes I said Billions of dollars thes folks cost is unbelievable, yet when was the last time you heard of someone actually getting prosecuted for it. I want jail time for these people, not a fine and house arrest, this is ludicrous Just look at it this way, how much money does your company pay just to try to keep it out? How much do they pay when the viruses get through? So how much more does everything cost just because we have to spend all this money protecting our equipment, like I said billions. Some of these viruses are designed to attack microsoft products because their competitors are the ones creating them Just my 2 cents, but until we take actions on a criminal level it isn't gonna change, why would it, there's no consequences for doing it. It's just like a video game to some people.

I just think you have to be a sick jerk to want to make a computer sick...It blows my mind. I sent Rob a PM but I would share http://grisoft.com
AVG anti virus. It is free, doesn't take over your computer like some of the big name brands and it works.
I recently removed nine virii from a ladies computer. She owns a local restaurant, my payment was a forty dollar gift certificate. They have the best desserts. It's a shame I spent it all in one day..LOL

That is why I have a completely seperate computer system for Limewire and then my other computers on the network are fully protected. I never boot the limewire computer unless I want to download files. Then when finished I scan them for viruses and then move them to my main computer for burning onto CD. It is a full proof way of protecting my system and my network. That one computer is so unimportant to me that if a virus does hit it I will just reprogram it and start over again.

Limewire is terrible, don't use it unless you are ready to do a lot of work to clean up your computer.
AFAIK there is not a virus that should cause you to replace hardware. Reformat, yes, but replace no. Maybe some are new to me though.
I work ~12 hours a day, mostly on the computer and any virus takes away from that time and my time fixing the companies computers. I want virus writers to burn in he((. It never even crossed my mind to write a virus when taking old Turbo Pascal or qBasic classes years ago or even recently working in vb.
I use Firefox and run Win2000 or XP and have not had any major issues for a while. If I could I would be using Linux, but my work software is only written for Windows. My wife is a Mac person and I bought her a new ibook last year. Talk about no worries for any viruses or software problems...I will give that to Apple.
A lot of the anti-spyware stuff has been covered here except Bazooka. It is not user friendly, but can pick up stuff the others can't. You do have to go into the registry to get rid of most of it though.

One of my computers I set up for dual boot with Linux and Windows, but I have not had any time to play around with it. I wish I did, since it would be nice to have that much more control over the operating system. I do like the OpenOffice.org suite too and use that on XP for office stuff.
